OBW Temple on Lir's Island

OBW Temple on Lir's Island, full name "Order of the Brackish Waters Temple of the Gatekeepers on Lir's Island", is a temple complex situated on Lir's Island off the coast of Beltane.

What's the name of your building? Why?

  • OBW = Order of the Brackish Waters, a Merchant's Guild and Mystery Cult dedicated to a particular pantheon of deities
  • Temple of the Gatekeepers = The Gatekeepers are a divine couple who guard the threshold between land and water, known as Manaw and TKGoddess.
  • Lir's Island is the name of the Island, named after Lir, one of the founders of the order

What’s the purpose of this building?

  • Temple /shrine
  • Covenant/Monastery
  • Trading outpost/trade route stop
  • Shops, boarding houses for pilgrims
  • School/training

How does this building look and feel?

  • Like many of the buildings in the North, it is made completely of concrete, metal, and stormglass
  • It is painted extensively inside, with statues of different gods or ancestors
  • It is a complex of several buildings, they are not incredibly intricate buildings as OBW are not considered in style over substance, save for their shop for pilgrims and the temple itself, which is lavish and has several rooms for prayer, contemplation, and group worship
  • It is built like a residential house, with the actual shrine in a natural spring outside which collects from rainwater

History

This is one of the first temples created when the OBW was founded, so although it is not the largest or even the headquarters, it is considered of historical importance and a holy site for pilgrims.

Tourism

Some of the wall paintings are painted with pigments which cannot be created anymore, and many outsiders want to take samples of it to make artificial versions which is strictly forbidden.
