Nilus Nemec
Nilus Nemec, youngest living son of Lazslo and Iva, continues to navigate the quiet complexities of a family burdened by loss, secrets, and uneasy silences. Born and raised in the rural village of Guthram, Nilus grew up tending goats and sheep, a fixture among the familiar rhythms of village life. Quiet and adaptable, Nilus learned early how to be inconspicuous, observing rather than speaking out, performing his duties reliably but without drawing undue attention.
His relationship with his older sister, Nadja, remains a guiding influence despite her physical absence. Her decision to leave Guthram and pursue art in Breckheim stirred in him a mixture of envy and admiration, leaving Nilus quietly reflective about his own future. Conversely, his interactions with his mother, Iva, remain marked by tension and sharp criticism—her harsh treatment following the loss of his younger brother Vasil has hardened him, teaching him resilience but also wariness. Nilus can do nothing right in his mother's eyes, and she quite often reminds him and those around her that Nilus is, in her view, disobedient, lazy and feckless.
His relationship with his father Lazslo continues to be defined by quiet, shared understanding and gentle yet distant guidance, complicated by the older man's inexplicable emotional withdrawal. The mystery of his eldest brother Lukasz’s disappearance casts another quiet shadow over the family, a wound not yet healed or even fully understood. in his stead Pavel remains the one brother he might look up to.
Nilus shares a quietly complex yet genuine connection with his wider family—the Wolnys, who, despite their quirks, offer him a measure of warmth often missing at home. His Aunt Vera is brusque and outspoken, rarely holding her tongue, yet there's an honesty to her that Nilus respects, even when her blunt comments sting. Among his cousins, Nilus has grown fondest of Heinrik’s younger sisters, Amalia and Emilia—fae-touched twins whose odd behaviors and unsettling whispers have led many in Guthram to keep their distance. Yet, to Nilus, their strangeness holds no threat; he sees them simply as family, unusual but deserving of care and kindness, a perspective he quietly maintains despite the wary glances of others. His relationship with Heinrik, strengthened by their shared experience of captivity among the goblins and their courageous stand against the fearsome Goatman, is built upon quiet respect and unspoken trust—though it is a bond that neither of them openly acknowledge. Jakob, the eldest cousin currently away serving with The Borderguard, is a more distant figure, existing primarily through letters and occasional village gossip, a shadowy example of another possible life beyond Guthram’s confines. Recently, however, Nilus’s careful balance has begun to shift. Nilus has found himself subtly drawn toward the dangerous allure of those who live at the fringes of civilised society. How it is Nilus made the acquaintance of people of their calibre is a question perhaps only he could answer. At first it was cautious curiosity—secret meetings in forest clearings, whispered exchanges at the village outskirts. Over time, these interactions have grown into something more frequent, more familiar. Nilus has been spending more and more of his evenings and idle afternoons stealing away to meet these new acquaintances, who by degrees are taking up more of his time and attention. Nilus’s newfound associations have not gone unnoticed. The village, ever watchful, has started to murmur about Lazslo’s boy being "in with the wrong sort." They cannot openly condemn him—not yet—but whispers travel fast in a place like Guthram, and Nilus is no longer as invisible as he once was. His daily routines as a herder continue, yet the space between him and the other villagers is slowly widening. Friendships cool, gazes linger longer, conversations fall quiet when he passes. Iva just sees it as further proof her son is a 'bad seed' Despite—or perhaps because of—this growing suspicion, Nilus remains steadfast in his newfound path. His moral compass, always flexible, is now tested more openly, shifting to accommodate loyalty toward those from beyond Guthram's edges. Though he remains moderately respectful of Guthram’s old beliefs and customs, there is now a subtle edge to his actions, an unspoken recognition that his world is more complex and morally ambiguous than his upbringing had allowed. As Nilus comes of age, the quiet goatherd from Guthram finds himself at a crossroads. His path is no longer simple or straight. Increasingly caught between village life and the shadowy appeal of his 'colourful' associates, he is beginning to realize just how thin the line between right and wrong truly is—and how easily he might cross it.

Family Ties
Nilus family live in a small house next to their sheep pens. The close confinement of their family whilst on the one hand encouraging strong bonds, also creates an explosive environment. Their family is not wealthy, but are well respected as productive memebrs of the community. Lazslo's sister, and the children's aunt, Vera runs the Miller's Arms, and the children are known to play with their cousins, Heinrik, Amalia and Emilia - despite Iva's grumblings about those 'faerie cursed girls'.
