Roald Amundsen

Explorer of the Arctic and Antarctica

When the explorer comes home victorious, everyone goes out to cheer him. We are all proud of his achievement — proud on behalf of the nation and of humanity. We think it is a new feather in our cap and one we have come by cheaply.
— Roald Amundsen
A famous Norwegian explorer and member of the Hunter's Guild. On his expeditions, he collected a lot of data on meteorological, geographical, zoological and supernatural phenomena. This data was useful in many different research projects across the Western hemisphere. Within the guild, he is considered the foremost expert on mystical phenomena and creatures of the Arctic and Antarctica.

Supernatural Discoveries

During his travels in the coldest reaches of the world, Amundsen and his crews found many curiosities and observed mysterious phenomena. He wrote numerous journals and reports collecting stories and first-hand experiences with these discoveries. Copies of these reports can be found in many places around the world, but the originals are safely stored away in the library of the Hunter's Guild in New York.

Antarctica

Amundsen only made one trip into the south. There he encountered Antarctic Ice Spirits which were brought back from several Antarctica expeditions.

Arctic

The arctic has many different supernatural creatures and myths. Amundsen did not encounter all of these personally but recorded what he heard from other explorers and the natives.
  • Tupilaq. Malevolent spirits or souls; can be summoned to destroy one's enemies.
  • The Kin'ak is a giant living in the north. Current whereabouts unknown, but believed to still be alive.
  • Adlet. A group of humanoid dog-legged people. Encounters with the Adlet have not been recorded since European pioneers and explorers have come to the Arctic. The guild presumes them to either be myths or extinct.
  • Agloolik. A guardian spirit of seals and fishers.
  • Ahkiyyini. Skeleton ghost of Alaska of Inuit legends. They believe he can create tidal waves and earthquakes. Existence unconfirmed.
  • Amarok. A giant wolf killing lone hunters. Was killed by local and guild hunters in an expedition in 1961.
  • Atshen. A cannibalistic spirit. A mystical phenomenon related to cannibalism. No confirmed encounters in many decades.
  • Ijiraq. A shapeshifting creature that kidnaps children. Hunted to extinction by the guild.
  • Kigatilik. A demon that is likely not native to the arctic. According to local legends, it can be summoned to kill Shamans.
  • Tizheruk. A large snake-like creature. Lives in the arctic oceans and is known to attack fishers. Believed to be hunted to extinction.
  • Keelut. Described as a hairless dog and known as the harbinger of death by locals. Existence is still unconfirmed to this day.
  • Akhlut. An Orca-Wolf hybrid described by Arctic folklore. No confirmed sightings by guild hunters.

I love that this is a real person that you've slotted into your world. I'm really interested in all the different supernatural beings he discovered. The photo you've chosen is great. :D
