Human

Humans are the dominant sapient hominid species of Earth . While most they do not possess extraordinary abilities unlike parahumans, they can be very resourceful and reproduce fairly rapidly. They have settled every continent with the exception of Antarctica.   Humans are highly social beings and tend to live in complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families and kinship networks to political states. Social interactions between humans, as well as parahumans, have established a wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which bolster human society. Curiosity and the human desire to understand and influence the environment and to explain and manipulate phenomena have motivated humanity's development of science, philosophy, mythology, religion, and other fields of knowledge.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Most aspects of human physiology are closely homologous to corresponding aspects of animal physiology. The human body consists of the legs, the torso, the arms, the neck, and the head.   Humans (and usually parahumans) are lightly sexually dimorphic.  Males tend to be taller and heavier than their female counterparts and often possess higher levels of physical strength, deeper voices, darker skins and more body hair.

Biological Traits

While the human species has an average lifespan of 47 years, individuals who make it past the age of 25 typically go on to live between 60 and 80 years of age.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans are a gonochoric species, dividing into male and female sexes. Most human reproduction takes place by internal fertilization via sexual intercourse, but can also occur through assisted reproductive technology procedures. The average gestation period is 38 weeks, but a normal pregnancy can vary by up to 37 days.   Compared with other species, human childbirth is dangerous, with a much higher risk of complications and death. It is one of the leading causes of mortality among women.   They are also capable of reproducing with parahumans such as vampires and werewolves   Humans have a male-to-female ratio of 1.01 at birth.

Growth Rate & Stages

These represent the average development stages for human children.
  • Infancy 0-12 months
  • Toddler 1-3 years
  • Childhood 4-10 years
  • Puberty 11-18 years
  • Adulthood 19+ years

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans are omnivorous, capable of consuming a wide variety of plant and animal material, and have used fire and other forms of heat to prepare and cook food since the damn of time.  They can survive for up to eight weeks without food, and three or four days without water.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Humans are highly social beings and tend to live in large complex social groups. They can be divided into different groups according to their income, wealth, power, reputation and other factors. The structure of social stratification and the degree of social mobility differs, especially between modern and traditional societies. Human groups range from the size of families to nations. The first forms of human social organization were families living in band societies as hunter-gatherers.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans depend on five primary senses (hearing, sight, smell, taste, touch) and it is believed up to 13 additional senses to receive and process stimuli received for internal and external sources.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

While humans and parahumans share the same technological progression, humans tend to be the leaders in terms of discoveries and inventions, as their population numbers dictate a statistical increase in success rate.   Additionally, some technologies have evolved by the human need to compete against the natural advantages of parahuman species.
