A tall, dark, and snarky tiefling trying to live a peaceful life but incapable of ignoring the call to adventure.
Solis is a snarky and hotheaded man who wears glowering looks and antisocial behavior like a suit of armor. He was raised a slave and fought fiercely for the freedom he now has. His past has lead to him being distrustful of others and extremely protective of his own heart. But his nature is one of kindness, softness, and extreme loyalty.
All he wants is peace and acceptance.

Appearance
Physical Description
Solis is lean and muscular in build. Most of his musculature is centered in his broad shoulders and back (gotta keep those horns up somehow), with his legs coming behind at a close second. His waist an hips are on the "womanly" side when compared to his shoulders.
Body Features
Solis is dark skinned with curly, reddish auburn, hair that fades to a ginger color at the ends. His skin has a warm undertone. His hair is currently cropped short and, typically, slicked back. He's broad shouldered and long limbed. He possesses a long tail that ends in a puff of fur the same color as his hair. A pair of horns that fade from a darker gray at the base to a lighter shade at the ends sit atop his head, and a pair of orange and yellow bat-like fairy wings sprouts from his back.
Facial Features
Sol's face is angular and a tad thin. His eyes are large, hooked, and blue in color with large irises and cat-like pupils. His eyebrows are sharp, the same color as the root of his hair, and possess a very distinct, jagged, shape. His nose is short, has a pronounced transition between the ridge and tip, and has a very slight upturn. He has a very slight cupids bow and the shape of his lips gives him an ever present pout. His resting face constantly looks either morose, annoyed, or concerned.
Identifying Characteristics
Solis' most striking features are the large, curled, ram-like horns that sprout from his head, his long lion-like tail, and (more recently) the large orange fairy wings sprouting from his back. Other notable features include his large eyes with their cat-like pupils, his pointed and finned ears, and the myriad of scars on his face and torso. He has a tattoo that marks him as a slave of the Thrahak family on his chest over his heart and a matching band around his left bicep. Notable Scars
Three on his face. Two on the right side of jaw that go over his cheekbone and one that starts between the two former and stretch over his nose.
An old arrow wound on is right arm.
A set of scars on each shoulder and on his lower back that appear to have been caused by claws.
The tattoo has a very deliberate looking scar through it.
Bite marks on the back of his neck from a fanged beast.
A series of small scars on the palms of his hands from where his own claws have pierced his skin in the past.
A burn scar from acid on his right arm.
A pair of small scars on the other side of his neck from a vampire attack.
Physical quirks
Each lobe/point of his ears has a hole from a previous piercing.
Apparel & Accessories
Day to day
Solis wears simple, loose fitting, long-sleeved shirts and high waisted breeches. Over his shirt he wears a wine colored doublet/huntsmen. His shoes are simple, black, leather boots that reach up to just below his knee. He has a simple leather belt around his waist from which his sickle and coin pouch hangs. He wears black, fingerless, leather gloves on his hands to protect his palms from his claws. Cold Weather
For cold weather Sol adds a long sleeved, hide, jacket with fur trim. The jacket has scattered pale spotting and wooden buttons. It's long and parts in ghe back to allow his tail to poke out. The jacket was made for him by Zel when they stopped at his family's camp. Armor
Sol wears mithril scale mail. His mail in particular has been colored a pale gold with darker gold accents. The gorget and breastplate of the armor are decorated with flowing draconic forms. The mail itself is higher in the front and ends at his knees in the back. There's a dark red sash around the waist. Under the armor he wears a deep red gambeson jacket, black breeches, and black boots. Over the armor he wears a hardened leather pauldron on his right shoulder and matching bracers. Jewelry
He currently wears several gold hoops in his ears (one from each lobe/point) and a golden chain with a stylized, heart shaped, pendant (periapt of wound closure). Accessories
A black shoulder cape that falls over his right shoulder. There's a decorative mantle at the top. The top of the cape has a leather pad and ties off with golden cords (shoulder cape of protection)
Specialized Equipment
He walks with a surprising degree of elegance and care. His steps are quiet and light. His movements in general are fluid and bring to mind a performer not a brawler.
Special abilities
Darkvision
Sol's infernal lineage grants him the ability to see well in the dark. It also gives his eyes a reflective quality similar to a cat. Hellish Resistance
Sol is resistance to fire. Also allows him to handle objects and water that would be too hot for others. Ironically doesn't like spicy food. Firey Rage
When under duress Sol's mind snaps and he flies into an intense, adrenaline fueled, frenzy. His hair unravels into coils of flame, his skin glows in places, and his eyes fill with infernal energy as he becomes surrounded by a twisting inferno that can lay waste to any who stand near him. He currently has little to no control of this. Shapeshifting
Thanks to his succubus half he can change his appearance. Currently unable to fully control the ability nor keep it going for extended periods of time. The shifting also has a chance letting lose one of his other aspects: Ignis and Icarus. Charm
He has the innate ability to attract others to his presence. In a passive sense his appearance and latent magic/pheromones make other more pliant and generally attracted to him. In an active sense he can exert his will over others though he has very little direct control over this -- and currently lacks the desire to learn the skill.
Mentality
Personal history
Solis was taken from his mother (Pentia) at a very young age and raised a slave by the Thrahak family in Redwater. It was implied to him that it was his own mother who sold him to the family, but the truth was that his mother was held captive by an Ilithid and his father (Novus) took him in the hopes of keeping him safe from said Ilithid and the other fae. Something went wrong and Novus was pulled back to he Feywild, leaving the infant Sol with Prince Zelious Estrellas. Prince Estrellas marked the infant Solis with a magic tattoo that sealed his magic and hid him, thus preventing his wings and certain powers from manifesting as he grew.
His place with the Thrahak's was meant to be temporary, however, Prince Estrellas was murdered shortly after hiding Solis and he was left to live with the Thrahaks. He was raised by the other slaves owned by the Thrahaks and grew up alongside another slave boy, Emry, as well as his masters' grandson, Kari. Sol was given to Kari as a sort of personal attendant/pet at a young age and was the boy's constant companion. In their mid to late teens the pair forged a close relationship that aired on the side of intimate. The extent of their relationship was accidentally revealed during a ball and upon finding out that their grandson was fraternizing with one of the slaves, Sol's master sent him away to a pit fighting ring also owned by the family.
Sol was trained as a pit fighter and conditioned to react violently to certain stimuli. He remained in the "care" of the pit handlers until his escape at the age of 23 during a violent uprising, during which he murdered one of handlers who attempted to stop him. He'd spent the past year before arriving in Saltmarsh attempting to travel as far from Redwater as he could. Unfortunately his poor sense of direction lead him to wandering in circles and he didn't wind up far at all.
He's spent the past 6 months learning where he came from and who he's supposed to be.
Education
Solis has received very little in the form of a formal education. As a slave he was only taught what would make him perform his tasks more efficiently. He was also taught a type of performative dance which he performed with his brother, Emry. Later into his teenage years he began receiving tutelage from Kari. These lessons included ballroom dancing, the lyre, as well as both reading and writing. Leading to him having a wide vocabulary despite his social status. Unfortunately for his progress in literacy, his relationship with Kari was discovered and the two were separated before he reached higher than an elementary level of understanding.
He was later taught how to fight through his experience in the pits. This experience has given him the sill to use just about any weapon but he currently gravitates to either the trident or sickle.
Since his escape Sol has fully learned how to read and write, in common, thanks to the help of Zel and Vagrant. He's also begun learning the druidic language and has become skilled in the maintnance of certain land vehicles.
Employment
Sol was "employed" by the Thrahak's as Kari personal attendant until he was 18, if you can call slavery employment. In this position he performed many menial tasks but primarily acted as a companion or "pet" for Kari and danced for the entertainment of Kari's mother, Lord and Lady Thrahak, and their guests.
He served as a pit fighter until the age of 23.
He's spent the year he travelled after escaping picking up the occasional odd job as he travelled. Typically of the physical labor variety as his lack of a formal education limited his options.
He's currently employed as a "Town Guard" by the city of Saltmarsh and investigating Yennin's involvement in an assassination and cult activity in Saltmarsh. Although that job has been indefinitely put on hold.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Assisted in finding the cure to a freezing plague.
Aided in the killing of a rakshasa possessing Sparrow.
Returned Sparrow to his mother.
Helped kill the Demon Lord Malcanthet.
Helped find Aera's mother (Knock) and sister (Brook)
Failures & Embarrassments
Was convinced that doing a handstand was a normal form of greeting in Saltmarsh (it wasn't).
Nearly drowned trying to save Plown.
Accidentally contributed to the death of the goblin Maura while trying to rescue her.
Fell for Plown's deception.
Accidentally infected a deity, his companion Korth, the mage Keledek, and a large swatch of the local fish with the Freezing Plague.
Was charmed by a vampire and tricked the cleric, Magdela, to free said vampire after it had just been contained.
Lost control of himself and nearly killed a member of the party.
Lost his shit and tried to fight Dhuval.
Nearly murdered his significant other by kissing him.
Accidentally flirted with a cultist.
Kissed Shula while not in the right mind.
Mental Trauma
Sees himself as worth less because of years being treated as a lesser being.
Suffers from mild PTSD after traumatic experiences in the pits and from being violently torn away from his slave family.
Has difficulties allowing himself to open up and become close to other people because of a lingering feeling of betrayal.
Responsible for severe injury (and possibly the death) of fellow combatants.
Murdered one of the handlers out of necessity when he and the other slaves escaped.
Partially responsible for the death of Maura.
Was kidnapped by a vampire for 3 days.
Got his father (Novus) arrested for treason.
Is considered a living warcrime and possible biological weapon by the fae. A few of which want to use him as a bomb to end their war with the devils.
His mind is shared by the personifications of his devil and archfey sides (named Ignis and Icarus).
Was kidnapped by the fae/1207.
His boyfriend was the person who gave him to the Thrahak's as a child.
Nearly murdered his boyfriend by kissing him.
Was dragged to Cania by a sword.
Intellectual Characteristics
Surprisingly quick reader despite being new to the skill.
More of a visual learner.
Sol's decision making process is based on gut feelings, instincts, and emotions instead of rational thought or preexisting knowledge. ie: He is not a strong swimmer but will immediately jump into a river to save a drowning clown.
Morality & Philosophy
Solis believes that ignoring the suffering of those around him would make him no better than those who tormented him. It's because of this belief that he allows himself to be dragged into dangerous situations despite wanting nothing more than to seclude himself on the outskirts of town.
person.sexuality
Solis is demiromantic/bisexual and prone to catching feelings for those he's grown close to in a platonic sense. Open to polyamory.
person.gender_identity
Solis identifies as male and gets slightly annoyed if mistaken for a woman. Isn't bothered by wearing traditionally feminine clothes.
Taboos
He can't stand harming other living things. He'd have a hard time shooting a deer even if he was starving.
Killing feels very wrong to him, even if it's done in self defense, and the act will stay with him for a long, long time.
Known Languages
He can speak common and dwarvish fluently but can only read and write in common. For some reason he is perfectly fluent in infernal despite having no formal training in the language. He's started to learn druidic.
Personality
Motivation
Freedom and acceptance. Plain and simple.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Savvies
Handstands, melee combat, grappling, the lyre, rope tying, dancing, land vehicle maintenance Ineptitudes
Socializing, flirting, swimming, wrangling smaller party members
Likes & Dislikes
Likes
The colors purple, black, gold, and gray; snakes, lizards, cats, small animals, music (specifically that of the lyre or harp), dancing, plays, stories of romance, children, the smell of fresh clothes, flowers (has grown fond of lavender), and sweet foods/desserts (his favorite dessert is cheesecake). Dislikes
Loud noise, crowds, most people, spicy food, being in the spotlight (spontaneously), most scary stories, fighting, thunderstorms, and the sight of blood.
Virtues & Personality perks
Sol possesses a foolish amount of protectiveness toward those he's close to and those who cannot defend themselves. He doesn't consider himself particularly brave, but he would absolutely get between a charging boar and a scared child.
He's incredibly kind despite what his outward behavior would tell you. The sort who would give you half of his food even if he was starving and let you have his bed because he's perfectly fine on the floor.
Vices & Personality flaws
Sol is very hotheaded and argumentative. If he feels he's being challenged in some way he's quick to anger and even quicker to yelling as a defense mechanism.
He does not make decisions based on rational thought, which often leads to him making horrendously impulsive decisions. Sometimes this pays off (like stopping a would be kidnapper from taking a little girl) other times not so much (nearly drowning in a river trying trying to help a party member).
He's a hopeless romantic.
Personality Quirks
His tail often curls around one or both of his legs when he's nervous. Which is most of the time.
He tends to drop eye contact during conversations.
When he's lost in thought or daydreaming he will tap his fingers/feet in time with either a song in his head or one playing in the environment. The behavior can also manifest if he's extremely relaxed. If he's particularly absorbed in the song or whatever he's thinking about his whole body might start to sway in time with the beat as well.
He often hums mid sentence when he's stressed or having a difficult time translating his thoughts into words.
Hygiene
Solis tries to keep himself clean but bouts of depression and PTSD make it difficult for him to maintain good grooming. An easy way to tell his mental state is to check his nails and hair. On a good day he's often preening himself, on a bad day he's lucky if he has the energy to drag a brush through his hair.

Honorary & Occupational Titles
Burning Soul - his title/calling card in the pits. Guardsman Lord/General - He's second in command under Mephistopheles. What the exact title is, is unclear. Prince????? Maybe??
Wealth & Financial state
After a brief adventure up north, Sol has come to possess a modest amount of wealth in the form of ancient gold coins. Unfortunately he has no idea how much wealth he truly has, so the odds of him keeping it are very slim.
His original gear was deceptively nice in appearance due to him having stolen it when he escaped (to be fair it was the equipment he used in the pits so it was his anyway). The only original possession of his that may be seen as valuable and frivolous is an intricately decorated lyre. However he is unwilling to part with it for sentimental reasons.
With the newfound influx of money that comes with the high-risk life he's been currently living he's been able to afford properly tailored clothing and found much nicer equipment. In essence he went from homelessness to a moderate amount of wealth.
Family Ties
Sol's birth family was unknown to him for most of his life. He was raised alongside other slaves and considers them the closest thing he has to family. He's discovered that his father was an archfey named Novus Velca and his mother was a succubus named Pentia.
Known members of his slave family are:
Emry Alder (older brother)
Yvonne (baby sister)
Eliza / Mama 'Liza (mother figure: Deceased)
Religious Views
Sol doesn't put much stock in religion. He believes in the gods of course, hard not to in a world where they're presence is so clearly felt. But prayers aren't what freed him and he believes the gods wouldn't give him aid because of his heritage. He does offer the occasional token or prayer at shrines for luck or during celebrations, however. He may not hold the gods in high regard but he also doesn't want to piss them off. Same is true for spirits on any kind. Better to stay on their good side than incur their ire.
Believes he'll likely wind up in whatever pit of hell his demonic parent, Pentia, hails from when he dies.
Social Aptitude
Almost completely non-existent. His lack of trust in others and less than ideal upbringing has left him with little knowledge of how to interact with others outside of what little he picked up on noble etiquette. When faced with someone in power he'll either after rebellious and defensive or extremely servile depending on how intimidated he is by them.
Mannerisms
Solis gestures with his hands constantly when he speaks. And if he's really comfortable his tail gets in on the action as well.
He prefers to bow his head, if not his full body, when he leaves instead of saying goodbye and often does it when he's thanking someone. A holdover from days when such behavior was required and punishment for forgetting was quick.
Hobbies & Pets
Sol plays the lyre as a hobby. Though he typically only does so when he thinks he's completely alone. He'd need to feel especially comfortable with a person to play for them. He also makes teas and mild perfumes, is an avid reader of regency/chivalric romance, and writes in his spare time.
He has a pet displacer beast named Mouse (also called Mus and Little Miss). The house as a whole has a pet mimic currently called Mimi. As a group the party also owns two horses named Copper and Todd.
Speech
Slow, deliberate, and blunt when calm. His speech tends to quicken the more he panics. His volume depends wholeheartedly on how comfortable he is in a situation. For having a lack of education he does possess a surprisingly large and flowery vocabulary thanks to spending as much time as he did in close proximity to nobility (and the decently intelligent devil in his brain). The small amount of tutelage he did receive didn't hurt either. He is prone swearing heavily in casual conversation.
His voice is on the deeper side with a gravely edge to it.
(Closest comparison to the sound of his voice)
The nightmare had been a mess, more than they usually were. It wasn’t the recurring memory of pain he’d gotten used to. It was disjointed. No handlers pulling him from a cell. No chamber he couldn’t quite pin down the appearance of. No smoke in his lungs or burning in his blood.
Nothing was happening to him.
He was the monster.
It had taken over. It was on a rampage. Burning and clawing its way through everyone he’d ever loved. Wings and skin were like tissue paper to it as it cackled and relished in the blood on its claws and tongue.
He couldn’t move. He couldn’t scream. He could only watch as It turned those he cared about into piles of flesh, fur, and feathers on the floor.
Was it a wonder he couldn’t say more than, “it went badly?” fumble through repeated apologies.
Most of them weren’t for attempting to smack the King of the Fey with a sword.
