Appearance

Physical Description

Nilus us frail and thin in appearance. He has long legs compared to his torso.
Nilus has flexible, chitinous, skin that is primarily a deep blue grey with areas of cool grey on his face, neck, and other soft places. His limbs are insectoid (though they look humanoid when viewed through clothing) and he has a dragonfly-like tail. A set of thin, blue, wings sprout from his back (detailed below) and his hair is a similar blue grey to his chitin.

Body Features

Nilus' wings are dragonfly-adjacent in shape. The edges reinfoced with chintinized rods along the top and bottom edges. The membrane itself has a shimmery quality, with the edges being lighter and thinner than the center.
The foremost "wings" don't assist with flight at all and act more like a second pair of antennae.

Facial Features

Nilus's face is long and thin. He has a pointed chin and a small mouth with hardly any lip. His eyes are exceptionally large, round, and dull cyan in color -- they resemble compound eyes. His ears splay off to the side and are pointed. His eyebrows appear to be chitinous protrusions and from them a pair of flexible, mobile, antennae sprout.

Identifying Characteristics

Nilus' most identifying features are his deep blue wings, antennae, insectoid limbs, and large cyan eyes.

Apparel & Accessories

Constantly wears a brown fez.
 
He wears a pair of round glasses with gold colored rims. They stay on his head with via soft leather straps as aopposed to metal arms.
 
While residing on the material plane, Nilus has taken to wearing button up shirts, sweatervests/cardigans, slacks, and loafer-like shoes. His shirts have been tailored to button around his wings, keeping the back from being fully open. His pants are on the high waisted side to accomadate his tail.
 
He wears no jewelry to speak of.
 
The color pallete of his clothing leans toward neutral earth tones; creams, tans, and browns with the occasional white/off white.

Mentality

Personal history

Nilus grew up in the Faewild. At some point he moved from his home domain to the domain of the archfey Emmantiensien; where he studied archeology and eventually became a professor of the subject. He also developed extensive knowledge of artifice and used it to recreate ancient artefacts both mundane and magical. 
 
While in Emmantiensiens' domain he met his best friend and colleague, Phineas, and now wife, Diana. Nilus and Diana had one son, Asterius, who had a great interest in astronomy and astrology.
 
An attack on Emmantiensien's domain by the growing infernal presence in the Faewild forced he and Diana to flee to the material plane. Sadly his son, like many others, did not escape with them and is believed to have been killed. After his son's death Nilus fell into a deep depression that he has only recently been able to claw his way out of.
 
The couple reside in a small refugee village populated by fae and located somewhere on The Shelf. There Diana currently works as a healer while Nilus used his skills artifice to help make alchemical potions and tinctures to aid in his wife's work.
 
In recent months Nilus has decided to leave home on an expedition to find the ruins detailed in a map he acquired. Finally feeling well enough to return to his chosen field of work.

Education

Nilus has an extensive, advanced, education. He's an expert on ancient cultures and architecture. He himself was an esteemed professor in both the Faewild and would hold guest lectures at a college in the Dimir Dynasty.

Employment

Self employed archaeologist who finances his research and expeditions by selling alchemical reagents, potions, and replicas of historical artifacts.
 
He was previously a professor of archaeology at a university within his home domain in the Faewild. He also researched a variety of ancient cultures and crafted replicas of culturally significant items for use by museums and study.

Nilus believes that ancient artifacts, items, and remains should be left with their culture and only temporarily removed for study, if at all. They aren't something to be traded or hoarded as a commodity.
