When giving my report over to Rose this afternoon when she informed me of a special assignment from Alroy. She didn't get too into the briefing, but from the general description we would be venturing out north of the wall. She got roped into it from her wizard and decided to pick Blu and me out for our survival in the field. We both decided that it was time to relax at the Silvermace bar in the bottom of the command tower. This mission was going to be unpleasant at minimum. She had arranged us to meet there as well so it all worked out.
Gthre Silvercrest came in to play tonight, a piano piece that was pretty pleasant. For the life of me I'd never be able to play on that tiny thing like that kobold could. Eventually Alroy met us in the bar after Rose and I shared some drink and food. He had the upsetting news that one of the damnable tentacle balls are getting smarter. I swore that I would kill him if that thing managed to get loose IN the wall.
Sei'Gela Brightclaw even showed up for a meal and a drink tonight. The clan leader's wife, the atmosphere got kinda stiff, but that's to be expected. She's not one to cross, defiantly not one to mess with. Well, Blu and I ended up following Alroy back toward his lab up all those stairs. Luckily we where there as the fucking squid escaped and attacked one of the janitorial crew. Blu was paying attention and rushed it and I was watching her and followed up by tearing the thing apart with my claws. Alroy said the victim wasn't infected, but still had the toxic fester happening. Gods alive they'd be dead in a day if not stopped. Good thing the abby/medical was two floors down or I'd have to take his limb off right here. I had Blu watch over Alroy and carried the guy to the ward, I'd kill the wizard later.
I laid the injured down on one of the beds as the tenders got to work. Not long after a Tengu and Catfolk waltz in. Very curious as they didn't have any Wall insignia. I found out later that they had clearance above me to just walk up here unattended. Well, the crow-man? touched a gold inlay of Sarenrae on their Mithral armor. A light emanated from him and EVERYONE in the ward started to heal. He walked over to the fresh arrival and cured and healed him on the spot. I thanked him saying we could use his abilities out here, I found he was actually here for just that. I left them to their thing as I went back to thrash Alroy.
I came back to the entrance of his lab and just stood guard waiting for him to notice. He was too busy staring into a dark corner Blu was watching it before I announced my return. After a few moments I came over to see what he was looking at and muttering about. The squid had a clutch of eye looking eggs. We had some back and forth about containment vs eradication. He eventually settled on my side and I used my Greater Flaming amulet to ash the eggs. Some started to pop away, but Alroy put an end to those. After all that I needed another drink.
We went back to the bar and I ordered a bottle from Perian Wildviel. The stuff was about as close to paint tinner as you could get, but Rose and I would need it to not kill the wizard. Alroy said that the creature had breached a circle of hold monster and of the various methods it could have done it, none were good news. He had tried to use a scroll of detect thoughts and the results didn't sound good. The newcomers met up with us and Alroy told of our mission. We were to go an deal with new mutations beyond the wall. The newcomers were some sort of inquisitors from the crown, but at least they didn't SEEM like narks yet. About then our informations people came by.
Ber'Talt and Telu'Si came by with the field report and a soaking puoch of honey that was tossed at Faena, the catfolk that came with Quinn. Blu saw to cleaning her hand and the pouch. I'm surprised that Telu'si hasn't retired yet even, but he said he was just here for a drink... Anyway, they came with reports and even some barbs of various monstrosities from the north. They had encountered a group with bigger heads much like the one we just ended. Some retreated from a battle unlike most encounters. There was a report of one looking like it had robes, but most are just thinking it was a local in the wrong place at the wrong time. There were breeding grounds in one of the old towers, some stationary creatures providing some kind of hive intelligence. None of the prospects sounded good, and we could maybe investigate two before the next wave.
The rest of the night was to take time to relax as it won't happen much once we cross to the north. Rose ended up relaxing a bit much and Blu and I carried her off to her bed before retiring ourselves.
