Alroy talked some more to the spider elf and I guess that they got their creatures locked in the crypt about three miles underground. I hate caves they're too enclosed for me. I admit I got some claustrophobia, but with spiders and now these creatures... I'm not into it. I guess some of their people have defected one way or another, but she still insisted that we not harm her kin. Alroy settled on don't be the first to attack, but to end what does attack us. She said that with it all locked up that they gotta lock us in. to. the. crypt. They did offer us coin and access to their armory afterward. Nice to get some bonus pay outside the wall. Well Alroy being Alroy asked about diplomatic relations. Guess it didn't work out last time. Later found out that they are desperate to ask for outsiders with their society stuffs. She promises us guidance and protections up to the locked section. Even through the feeling of being watched is more than normal. She offers us a chance to grab supplies before we go and I headed to the bar with Blu, Rose, ZZ, and Alroy following.
I put down five gold and get four shots and a meal for Blu and I. Daemon brought over a fancy looking decanter and poured a jet black shot. I went to grab it and he slapped my hand away. He then dripped a clear liquid into it that turned the whole thing clear before swirling into a a deep purple. I took it and it felt like ice water down my throat. I got chilled as I tasted a pleasant brandy with berry that reminds me of the wall's stuff. It's strange and I couldn't quite place it. It must've been strong though as I was buzzed after one! Rose ended up joining me as we both downed our second. I swear I heard a whisper of "yes, drink more" kinda spooked me but This stuff was hard enough that two shots was a ton even if it didn't feel like alcohol. I do one last shot to Daemon's surprise since people don't typically last more than one. That was the sweet spot. Felt like ice shot through my body. I was kinda cold, kinda sleepy, but care free enough to go into the caves. Daemon poured the last one. Now normally I would have taken it, but I was "on duty" so I offered it to Blu and she just growled after sniffing it, so Rose took it as to not be out done. Daemon said that he had gotten a few bottles of this stuff from a wandering trader(The Wanderer) and the stuff was called the Kraken's Kiss. It was made from phase spider venom and the drips were anti-venom. I guess it was to get the venom's effects without the poison. I rode that wave for four hours. Alroy seemed concerned though I guess now I got that sparkle of mischief in my eye like Blu now. Either way I was ready for the caves.
We walked back and Rose and I had a great conversation. Something along the lines of if snow would melt in a bag of holding and if we could use that as a way to bring more water with us. Also reminisced about recruits and their common sense, or lack there of. Frozen tongues, licking barbed creatures, bag of holding in bag of holding accidents, ect.
we made it back to the mayor's to find his door unlocked and him seeming not there. There was a crash upstairs and Alroy went to investigate. The mayor was looking for a map for us and tripped with some books. I headed back into the basement. The others talk a bit more to the spider elf lady about their society and if the thing that attacked ZZ was one of theirs. I kept my mouth shut. I'm not going to ruin a diplomatic thing unlike some colleague I've had. Then her and her escort led us down the steps and into the tunnels. She was silently almost floating, him not so much. I guess lots of things hunt via sound down here, and ZZ's armor was humming. More than likely him or Rose would be targeted first. Alroy cast light on her anyway... This caused our escorts to wince at the sudden light and said it was ok until we got deeper. Much to my dismay, the tunnel started to narrow enough that I had to drop down on all fours or have my scalp messaged with rock.
We followed the Underdark residents through a maze of twists and turns though the catacombs heading down the whole time. Ouch my calves.. We ended up in one huge cave, their settlement. Our escorts walked a bit closer to us as chatter picked up in the local area. Must not be familiar with our kind. I saw some of them throwing gang signs at each other. Dunno what that was about. The town was kind of freaky as a good number of the building seemed to be built of a web-plaster.
We eventually came to a giant bridge over seemingly nothingness. There were two giant spiders watching us on it. Alroy seemed to take interest in them, called them Jade spider statues. When we saw the giant gate we finally got the feeling of being watched and noticed how menially worn most of the denizens here were. A kid brought a package to our lady friend and the whole interaction felt like being back on the surface for a moment. We got a handful of supplies and they handed me a vial of anti-venom, and a glass light burst thing. I asked her for a book of edible stuff down here and she asked her assistant to grab one for us. Figure I can still try to forage and make something with new ingredients. She didn't seem to believe we'd find much though. They un-barricaded the doors long enough for us to get through and the guard offered what was called a Darklight torch. seemed to be a dimmer, purple Everburning of some kind. Then the locked us in. I pulled our my regular Everburning and Rose's armor got Light cast on it again. Something whispered to us form all around, "turn back now" and something about filling filling spaces with spawn...
