Butas First Year

Buta first arrived at the academy in a haze not remembering how he got here only knowing that he was guided and this is where he must be. He knew he wanted to leave that wretched place behind along with all those people who judged him and hurt him for not being one of them. Being cursed they said. A heart of black was another. And a trip to the pits was the only way to clear this "sickness". They must have felt very righteous putting a child through that again and again. In the end they cast him out saying he was unredeemable. That was fine since he was never supposed to be there to begin with being left at doorsteps as an infant and all.
 
It wasn't long after getting cast out he was approached by a mysterious force promising all Butas worries and troubles would disappear and it would help make those who had done him wrong pay. He foolishly accepted and voice just laughed. It laughed for a while it laughed all the way to steps of Ioth Academy where Butas first Year would begin.
 
Butas first year was hard. He was not very accustomed to the outside world and was very untrusting of new people. He got placed in the Cove presumably because he looked quite unwell and perhaps it was thought that he could release some of his pent up anger through physical exertion. That worked for a while.
 
A while but people would not JUST LEAVE HIM ALONE. So there may have been a few minor injuries caused on Butas behalf to other students. Often at the laughing voices command. He sometimes would resist but more often than not he was not strong enough to resist. This also impacted his academic work a lot. Between his constant torment from the voice who just would not let him get one nights good rest. And the frequent scuffles with other students he was not able to focus on his academics as much as would be needed. Some teachers talked to him about a possible transfer to a different area of Ioth. Maybe a change of scenery would do him some good.
 
And good it did in his future years. He met some friends which took a looong time for him to warm up to. But now he would help any of them no matter the ask without any question. But above anyone else he had met Sventisko. The daughter of copper. She showed him he was not the only one from the outside who was treated poorly and there is plenty who are worse off than him. She taught him that he can resist this laughing devil in his mind. How to be strong so he can protect those he cares about. How to focus his anger at something worthwhile so he can actually make a difference in the world. He would make sure all the other would be Butas that still live outside the walls of Ioth academy will at least be given a glimmer of hope.
 
For the first time he was not an outsider he was a Kisjan and a proud one at that.

* Craft: Woodcarving
* End of year project: A carving of a willow tree. Strong and lively at the top and it slowly withers and looks more decayed as it goes to the bottom. Meant to signify the cycle of life.
