An Empty City Sector

by Jerry J. Vahn

Very shortly after we get back from helping people who were harmed by the Ancestor in the woods, we're informed that the energy signatures of the forming ancestors has appeared in Chinatown. Great, just great. It took all of us working together to take out just ONE ancestor, and when he appeared, he wiped out miles around him. If these things emerge in Chinatown, all of Millennium City will be blasted off the face of the earth.

We still don't know who's idea it was to try to merge the ancestors to take on Dr. Destroyer. That person better watch out when we find them. What an asinine idea. "I know, let's put several thermonuclear bombs together and see how easy it is to take out Dr. Destroyer."

We make our way quickly to Chinatown, near where we rescued Luo Jian's friend. Good news, the ancestors hadn't taken full form yet, bad news, there were 7 of them.

I quickly run over and spin around one of the smaller ones. Not sure how well it worked out, as it just sat there. Ghost did her usual and tried to plow through one. Ouch, that hurt me just watching it. She normally dishes out a lot of damage, but where she touched the ancestor globe, an energy spread to Ghost. She curled up into a fetal position. I don't think that I've ever seen her stopped in her tracks like that. Well, quick lesson learned there, DO NOT TOUCH the ancestor globes. That takes out most of what I can do.

What to do.... What to do? Ah, ok, hey, lightning, yea, maybe that will work.....

Well, it didn't work enough, so, It's time to push it, give it a heck of a wind up..... Oh, and right, work with the others, have to time it just right.....

These things are tough. Most of us hit it at the same time, and it just barely got smaller.

Cypher passes on some information that there are electrical fields starting to form near each of the ancestor globes.

We work together again, and attach the same globe. Sandcrab hits it with a manhole cover, and Ghost rips out a light pole and swings at it. Sandcrab switches to a light pole also. We time it better, and it get's pretty small. Ghost grabs a box, and takes off for the skies.

We turn our attention to the smallest one that I had dropped a light field around. I drop the field, and we all go after it again. This time, when we hit it, it drops, and then breaks apart into lots of tiny little energyless sparkles. About that time, it dons on me, that someone's soul had to be sacrificed for the ancestor to come back. I think we just killed two souls this way. The original ancestor, and the one who had sacrificed itself. I guess this is a situation where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or even the one, to slightly misquote that old Star Trek movie.

About the time that we finish up with the small one, so, we're down to just 5 of them left, in the energy fields, Destroids form. They look a bit different than the first one that we met helping Luo Jain's friend. Maybe I'll be able to affect it.

Before it is completely formed, I start trying to take apart it's weapon. Boy, this thing is complex. I get some of the parts off of it on the first go-around, so I keep going.

Ok, now, what do we do..... The Destroids are attacking the ancestor globes. Do I take it out, or do I help it attack the globes.

I'm not sure, with all the noise going on in the fight, but someone on the team states that, hey, we'll still have to deal with the Destroids after the ancestors are destroyed. Oh, and Max states that we now have LESS time to take all of them out. The 'countdown' sped up as the others were destroyed. Just great. Oh well, 'Today is a good day to die....." Although, I really DO NOT want to die today.

I finally get the weapon dismantled on the Destroid, and it flies up, and states something about self-destruct mode initiated.... It and the orb explode, and the orb is gone. Ok, perhaps this may be the way. I head over to the next Destroid near an ancestor orb. I start taking his weapon apart. It is weird that the Destroids are ignoring me as I take their weapon apart. They seem to be focused only on the orbs.

Sandcrab takes my toy away, and wraps it and an orb up in the tin roof of the building near him. ((You know what, Sandcrab is a bit destructive. He keeps tearing up the ground, or parts of buildings to cover opponents.))
Since my target is gone, on to the next one.....

Oh, not good, not good at all. We attracted Dr. Destroyer's attention, his PERSONAL attention. He shows up on a roof top, then drops down on the other side of the Destroid that I'm next to. Dr. D fires at one of the ancestor globes, and it is blasted to pieces in one shot. We are SO not ready to take this guy on. We have to find out what his weakness is. There has to be a kink in his armor somewhere.

We all agree that it is time to LEAVE Dr. D to deal with the ancestor globes, and for us to NOT be here when he is done. We all split up and head out in different directions. I'm going to go around to several different places, and wait to get an all clear from the others.
