There was so much blood. Everyone was beaten and battered, we lost G and Ilyana. For what?
We made it to the safe house without setting off alarms. Yi Feng’s mother was there. Tension poured off Yifeng. I was ready to burn the house down if Yifeng asked me to. She didn’t. She walked in instead. Brave, stupid but brave.
She tried to talk. Tried to reason. Things went south fast. They yelled at each other in Mokuna language. Until her mother walked towards me ready to strike after the fat dwarf pushed me, idiot.
Then her uncle showed up. The one that nearly killed me last time we infiltrated the Triads HQ. He moved like lightning. Snapping arms, grounding warriors, tossing power like a god. I shot him with lightning, barely slowed him. Lucid gave me shadow armor. Syrus shouted with rage. We tried. We all tried.
He snapped Ilyana’s arm like a twig, then punched her until she stopped moving and her body turned limp. He killed G too. Just like that.
Arthom lost it. He became something else. It still wasn’t enough. The uncle grabbed me by the neck, slammed me into the wall. I thought I was next. He threw me to the ground and I activated a shield as if that would prolong it.
And then the Triad came. Swords at our throats. We were done. Until Yi Feng’s mother begged them to spare her daughter. One crack in her armor. One truth in all this, she still loves her.
I looked around the room, my friends, my family. On death's door, Arthoms lifeless body lay there, my heart broke. Then as if fate would have it, I saw him again. My God, my protector. Watching. Only me. He looked calm as if to tell me it wasn't my time. A wave of relief flushed over me.
Before long, portals opened a wave of green, and then nothing.
We woke up at a familiar tavern, emeralds. My friends bloody and battered.
But I’m alive. We’re alive.
I don’t feel lucky. I feel hollow.
