A Goblin Funeral

by Aerilyn Faeyth

Dear Tidus,

I thought I would write you a letter to update you on my journey. I recently arrived at Mt. Goblin. I know our maps back home don't show anything here but its time for a bit of an update! On the once empty mountain top there is now a layered goblin city. Yes, I wrote goblin city! These creatures seem to show signs of intelligence. When I came to visit, they immediately saw the violin on my back. I was instantly hired to perform at a funeral. This town is strange because of its inhabitants, not its features. There is a town square with the typical shops, village homes, and other basic necessities to run a small society. The unique part is down the lift.

The lift took me to another level of the village encased in the mountain. There was a small coastline and I was reminded of home. A goblin named Borris passed away from what appears to be an unfortunate lift accident. This may be the strangest funeral I ever attended. Upon entering the ceremony I was handed a shirt to put on. I looked at the crowd and found everyone in attendance had the same shirt on that said "We hate Borris." A bit difficult to approach my process with decorum after that but I did my best.

Afterwards I saw the first creatures that weren't goblins. Sam, a halfling, Neolani, a hag raven, Boris, a gnome. The three seemed friendly and I decided to tag along with them on their errands. I didn't have anything to do until my performance at the tavern that evening. In town I put on a fireworks display for my new friends and young villagers. One goblin boy told me about Gnang, a prominent song writer in their culture. I want to learn more about his music but I'm told the content is too explicit to repeat. In the town we found the goblins preparing for some kind of conflict. Gazal, some kind of goblin officer told us prince Philip was about to attack their mountain. My new party and I agreed we needed to stop the conflict.

I may have met the love of my life (or at least one of them.) Philip was reasonable and willing to listen to us. He invited the goblin society to a feast to celebrate becoming allies. We were sent back to the mountain to relay the message. Goblins immediately began travelling. We went ahead and returned to the tavern. I performed my new song "Carriage License" and it well I think. I will hopefully have more to write to you soon. I miss you and I can't wait to make you proud.

Love,

Aerilyn
