Worm in the Garden

by Duraz Stoneheart

It were after the fall a' that great big be-crystal'd lizard, an after mah encounter wi' the real end boss a' me journey home tha' ah finally got tae enter Cofre. The sights n' sounds were a very nice improvement tae life n' felt rather good. After surviving all the mindbogglingly shoddy human craftsmanship a' Tantras an' Wa'erdeep, and the o'erly friendly touchy space invaders a' Lepota's bower trolls, tae finally be back on solid ground, inside a solid mountain where Chendes intended... was quite good. We was put up in an Inn right there a' the gate, which wasn't where id'a wanted, but it were good enough. Me frie...party members went on tae sleep an ah stayed up tae have a wee kip wi' the boys. Me ol' mates Gobha n' Lorrick were about n' we had a right good tuck in tae a few barrels of fine Dwarven ale. Someone pointed out tha' pretty maid Brida were about, but as there didn't happen tae be ah chance to talk, she musta wandered off a'fore ah could find her. Meant to congratulate her on her axe work.

Anyway, the next day... or mayhap the day a'er that...as ah did end up ha'en a bit'o a bender... ah went lookin fer mah party...who had all wandered off. Turns out they'd takin tae lookin 'bout the city, n' who can blame 'em. Where'ere they'd gone they'd ended up down in the fungus farms, pro'lly tae get a try at fresh Dwarven cuisine, an' who cae blame'em. So, ah made mah way down there n' found a big commotion goin. All the hullabaloo were because the tunnel between areas had been sealed off on account'a there bein' a big beasite causin a ruckus in the farms. Now last ah heard mah pack a' idjiots were in there an ah knew that if i didnae get in 'ere n' prop 'em up they like as not fall over. So, without much effort ah walked through the wall n' closed it behind me... ye can ne'er be too security mindful. In a few steps ah could see right enough a great big huge giant worm. All purple'y colored and rearin back o'er the farms and smashin' down again an again. An' 'ere a'runnin right at me comes Seksgar with a ferocious look on his giant water-suckin frozen cold blue face. While Seksgar began his favoritest of activities, what bein poundin away on inanimate objects, the unoffending wall a' the passage seemed to me a awful peculiar place tae be smashin since there were a great big worm o'er there waitin tae be gloriously kil'd. So after a bit a' conversation wi' the oversized waste'a muscle I figured that some'at weren't right... in his head...again...more'n usual. Just to be on the safe side I clear'd his 'ead a bit an sure 'nough that seemed tae do the trick. Him, a few big meow beasts that ah asked earth fer, ahn me headed back towards the farms tae see what was up.

The skinny tree hugger were up on top'a the roof o' a nearby building. Why? Ahh figure 'cause it was both up off the floor n' made 'a wood... reminded her'a home. She was busy fighting the other critters what invaded my home, some evil drow gits, causin a ruckus an like as not the cause o' our worm problem. Anyways she said that Roscoe and the sea thief were up ahead playin wit the big damn worm an she was thinkin that Roscoe being hisself, was likely in 8 kinds a' bad way. So, ah left Seksgar to introduce stone tae beastie and rushed ahead tae see if ah could half a thief or no. Turns out, ah did... though he were certainly near as dead as ah'd seen him, no idea what he coulda' done this time except ... well, he being him... he likely as not ran for'ard n' tried to turn yon big giant evil purple worm of death into his brand new lunch time companion. As he do.

Through much pain n' trouble we were able to even'ually get rid ah our worm problems and bring peace back to the farmland. Trouble was, the elf had gone n' poofed hersel' away. Now, we knew that there were all sortsa bad things after 'er and that it would be very bad if tha' happened. So Seksgar n' ah did a careful search. We found oursel' two ah them evil drow still tryin' tae muck about and we bopped 'em good n' took 'em captive...still no elf. We found a symbol ah' the drow evil goddess an tried tae sort it out, it came alive an attacked us! After FAR more effort than ah could ken tae smash a wee tattoo, POP here was a bubble an' we suspected that our elf were in it.

Well...neither Seksgar nor I be any good judge ah the magicky bits. But here was a puzzle right enou'. We figured it were a magic-type bubble what needed poppin. So, we tried that. Several things we tried tae pop that damn magic'y bubble didnae work. Eventually, or mayhap a combination a' things eventually did the trick as POP again and there's the elf. Only somehow she got hersel' livin' challenged... an looks like she got beat up real bad on the way. The drow she were fightin up on tha' roof musta been stronger than i'd ken.

The dwarf priest quite sensibly told us that she were no more, n' we should move on. Unfortunate for him, our skinny tree huggin arrow slingin dead-critter slayer was needed for some'at more n' churn'n earth ... or feedin trees? whate'er it is the elfs do wi' their dear departed. I dunno, prop'em up in a tree maybe? Anyways, he had tae be convinced tae use his more powerful magics to repair the sunlight deprived tree-kin. The pointy ear'd zombie murderer was livin' challenged is all, she could be livin' she just needed a wee spot'a help... like a step stool er' some'at. So Seksgar an I tried tae gi' the ol mumbler a hand in askin Chendes for a spot 'a aide. Seksgar turned out tae be really helpful. Ah was...less so, but still did mah bit. Speakin of...ah need tae look around for that purple crystal forest stone ah'd been carvin. Anyways...the elf got to the right a being livin' impaired and things worked out in the end.

Bottom line, look out fer worms in yer garden. They make fer bad pets n' hae a tendency tae makin yer party a bit breathin impaired.
