Entry 4 - New member, new mission, new enemy!

by Ashe

So we all met up at "On the Road," as is common for us now when we're either returning from, or heading out on, a job. Yitoshk ran in and got ale, in typical Yitoshk fashion. Conrad went and immediately sat down with me, and the others ran off to greet this little Halfling boy who was sitting at the bar with his pet dog. Or, well, his dog construct. The thing was made entirely of metal! If only we'd saved the metal we found in that chest, maybe the dog would've eaten it? Anyway, the boy's name is Cade and he's the cutest little thing ever! We all got some food, and Yitoshk downed his Ale while they questioned the kid. Kevin summoned some strange, magical bird that almost immediately took interest in Yitoshk, who swatted it away. That's when Pepper told us that Kas wanted to see us, but we should go see Urtho first. So, we all finished up and headed out, hoping Pepper would be alright alone. Poor thing felt anxious and such.

Well, Urtho offered to make us weapons, or enchant them. Conrad wanted to improve his Rapier, but decided to save up first. Yitoshk got his Maul upgraded, and Olo wanted to get his weapon improved too, but didn't have enough. I decided, with great hesitation, to have him enchant my Shortbow, which ran through almost all my gold, and I still only paid for half. I'm gonna have to come up with the rest, quickly. Anyway, while we were talking to Urtho, Cade decided to poke around, examining coins and then taking off to explore. Yitoshk, in typical Yitoshk fashion, was all "don't do this, don't do that, blah blah blah!" Sometimes that guy needs to loosen up. You'd think all that ale would make him a bit more fun. Anyway, after our meeting with Urtho, Cade made his way back and we all went off to find Kas.

Apparently, we need to deliver a package to a town somewhere in the Laelon-Nisiar border. Easy enough. Told us he'd give us more info in the morning. After everyone left, I stayed behind to inquire about "you-know-what," (which I hope you don't if you're reading this) and he told me he has no new information, but apparently sent Cybil to investigate? I reaaaaally hope he knows what he's doing. I trust Kas, but... well. I shouldn't write too much in here.

<Written in Thieves' Cant>
I really hope he didn't tell her... he said he didn't, but what if she finds out? Will she kill me?

<The next entry, written in common, dated 229>
So, we ended up being attacked in the night. Why does this ALWAYS happen!? You'd think with all the magic birds and mechano-dogs around here, we'd have some night safety! Anyway, before we turned in and basically invited these stupid things in, I noticed Cybil's door was open a bit. After everyone went to bed, I snuck in found some documents she left for us. Something about strange scraps of cloth, with a bleeding eye, and the words "Justice Only Exists Within the Mind's Eye." I planned on bringing this up come morning, but the things we were attacked by? They wore robes with the very same sigil sewn in. So I spoke the mantra to the one who was above my bed (they seemed to appear in everyone's room) and it's eyes widened in shock before I rammed my sword through his chest. Luckily, Cade was coming up and saw everything, and managed to sling the guy before I stabbed him. Upon death, the enemy exploded in a fiery blaze! Luckily, we dove out of the way in time. I ran to Kevin's room next, who seemed to be struggling. I got behind, uttered the mantra again, and stabbed him through the back this time. Didn't kill him, but Kevin finished him off. I dodged out of the blaze, but Kevin wasn't so lucky. I made way out to help the others, but they finished them off first. I called for everyone to go downstairs.

Whoever these people were, they ransacked the whole place. Thank the patrons Pepper wasn't here! And just like that, Kas came strolling in, telling us we'd bunk with him tonight. So we did, and the following morning, he explained that the people who attacked us were the followers of Rhaes, Goddess of Vengeance. He also introduced us to what we'd be "delivering." A boy named Fletcher. A really cute boy, if I'm being honest. Sadly, though, he's engaged. Laelon and Nisiar are forming some strange alliance through marriage. Apparently the King of Laelon wants to start ending these mage hunts, and decided that an Alliance with Nisiar is a good starting point. And Fletcher is the one getting married. What a waste of a man, married off to some stuffy noble girl. But, it is for the betterment of both Laelon and Nisiar. Also, apparently Fletcher holds Cybil in high regard, and was disappointed he didn't get to meet her. I cast Disguise Self to look like Cybil, but it... sort of backfired. Now he thinks I really AM Cybil, and that my true face is a disguise. Ah well, he's happy, so I'm not too upset about it.

<Again in Thieves' Cant>
If only he knew I was once Laelonian Royalty. Maybe I could marry him instead. Ha!
<End Thieves' Cant>

Anyway, we're about to head out. Hopefully we can get there safely, but Kas said these Rhaes followers are probably going to be ambushing us left and right. Lucky for me, I want to whet my blade with some crazy-people blood.
