Personal history
Zander's mother thought he was part of the 3% who didn't have powers. His powers weren't evident and didn't make for any sort of flashy trait. However, the older he got the more sick his single mother got. Her powers became weaker until she couldn't use them. Eventually she got so sick that she was admitted to the hospital when he was fourteen, and she has been there ever since.
It wasn't until too late that Zander realized he was the cause of his mother's illness.
