To save Korvosa

We took some time to heal up, then smashed the sarcophagi the vampires had retreated to. We then went to investigate the glassworks full of blood in the previous room. Brinna & Grett were able to tell this was some sort of magical creation that produced blood to pump through pipes into the next room. We also noticed a Thassilonian rune smeared with dried blood in a large stone column in the room. Deadeye recognized this as the rune of Lust. We left that alone for now, choosing to try one of the sets of double doors off the room we had our last fight in. Beyond these doors we found a room with a fancy sarcophagus & many papers strewn across a table and several shelves. Deadeye recognized the writing on the paperwork as Thassilonian, but none of the group knew this language. They collected Bika & the rescued priests, bringing them forward to this room. Bika started reading the paperwork, but it would take quite some time to go through it. We left them there and headed through the other set of doors. Straight ahead the floor fell away into a pit. Off to the north another set of doors opened onto a stairway down. At the bottom was ... another set of doors! In this room we found an obviously vampiric woman waiting for us. A red-haired with her chest splayed open, most of her internal organs missing, lay in a sarcophagi. Only her heart was still there, beating strongly, as if trying to return this damaged creature to life! We noticed glass tubing feeding blood into the sarcophagus. As the vampiric woman spotted us, she suggested we could replace her lost protectors. She even offered to help us transform into Strigoi. Deadeye leveled his gun at her & the fight was on! It was quickly apparent this Vampire woman was very tough. While most of us fought her, Hunzo went to smash the tubes leading into the sarcophagus. This caused the red-haired woman in the sarcophagus to clamber out of it and attack him! Meanwhile, Brinna was hit by a spell from the 1st woman, causing her to disappear! Eventually, Erios managed to land a very good hit! He turned the talkative woman into smoke! We then focused on the red-haired woman, who we noticed actually looked a lot like Queen Ileossa... Hunzo had done a very good job keeping her busy, but was glad to drop back and let the group help finish her off! Brinna re-appeared just in time to help finish the fight. We chose to immediately go looking for the Strigoi that had just turned to shadow and retreated. As we got to the top of the nearby stairs we heard a voice from behind us "You dare? Surrender and I will destroy you quickly"! We turned to see a Devil of some sort, as identified by Deadeye, glaring at us in rage. We declined his generous offer and the fight was on! He turned invisible and dominated Ogrim. We finally managed to chase the Devil off, but had to beat Ogrim unconscious & keep him subdued until the following morning, when he finally shook off the domination. With Bika's help we learned about the plans to destroy the city of Korvosa. The Devil was actually Lorthact, the Devil who Queen Ileosa had bargained with in the past. He had been trying to complete her original plan to sacrifice the entire city of Korvosa, by drawing it into the Abyss. This would have given him immense power when all the people in it died. Now that we had defeated him we were able to foil the last of these plans & save Korvosa!
