Appearing before us stood a large 2-headed Leopard man! He did not look friendly... Aronel was able to identify this creature as an Asura Nikaramsa. He knew it was susceptible to goodly damage & immune to curses. It proved to be a powerful foe, but the heroes managed to make it flee. However, they quickly retreated themselves at that point as they were very low on healing magics. On their way back to their base of operations they saw another apparition of Queen Ileosa. She was laughing maniacally and standing over the ghostly corpses of her subjects. A wave of dread washed out from her, damaging every nearby. Luckily, this was only the heroes. Arriving home they rested. Grett was able to fix up the heroes who had been bitten by the Strigoi via blood transfusions. The next morning we found guards waiting for us and asking that we come speak with Queen Kroft. When we arrived she asked us to catch her up as she was hearing all sorts of rumors of what we had done the day before. Brinna gave her an update, with Deadeye adding in what he could. She was glad to hear we had been on top of things & asked what we should do about the disgraced Bishop. We asked her to hold off with any punishment until we could determine if he was under any sort of enchantment or coercion. Since he had been the 2nd in command for a decade it seemed unlikely he had always been like this. We hoped to find out what has caused him to work with the fiends at the cathedral. We headed to the Longacre building.
While there we turned in the stolen goods for our 2500gp. We then went to the cells to speak with Bishop Abridan. He was not really happy to see us. When we started to ask him questions he clammed up, refusing to speak to us. We eventually convinced him to tell us how he got involved with Fiends and Undead in the cathedral. He said there was an incident where some creatures came up from below, killing the Bishop and then dominating everyone in the cathedral in the hour before dawn each day to be dominated. He spoke of a female Vampiric type creature that led them. He did not get her name. He was clearly disgruntled even without the domination magic. He did volunteer that some people were trapped in the crypts below the cathedral & that the groundskeeper and his wife had been killed and replaced. He also said any dead around the cathedral were taken into the crypts to feed Undead there. As we went to leave, Bika Hoffinbritter came running up to talk to us about the returned stolen goods. She had been able to read the notes written on them that we had not. They were in Thassilonian. She explained that someone felt that a call spirit ritual could be used to contact Ileosa's soul or the Devil Sermignatto, along with the contract between them. We then headed back to the cathedral. We chose to check on the previously dominated Priests first. We found that the doors in the cathedral had been locked as we made our way through. The clerics were all missing. We were attacked by a couple of invisible creatures when we entered the room with the stairs down. When they appeared they turned out to be some sort of Tiger men. We dispatched them quickly. We then headed down the stairs. At the bottom was a small room with 2 doors. Deadeye spotted a set of trap runes in front of both doors. However, noone was able to disarm them. Ogrim offered to set them off, but eventually we settled on Erios doing it as he could counteract some of the magical damage that was likely to occur. The rest of the group retreated back to the top of the stairs. When he set off the trap he was assaulted by necrotic and sonic damage as a loud BOOM went off. We hurried back down the stairs as Erios stood firm in front of the, now blown open, doorway as many Profane Ghouls swarmed towards him... Surprisingly, they pulled up short and one spoke to Erios. It asked him to gather skulls for them from a room further in. He kept it talking while waiting for us to get down the stairs. Deadeye was not willing to negotiate with Undead. He leveled his rifle and fired! This was a tough fight, but we finally dropped all but one of them. This one ran off, leading a merry chase down some low tunnels that we had to crawl through. Eventually, Hunzo poked his head around a final corner. In the room that opened ahead he saw more of the Strigoi along with the fleeing Profane Ghoul. He turned around and we withdrew from this cramped tunnel. We withdrew a bit and then laid in wait for the creatures to emerge from the tunnel.
Then Deadeye and Grett heard the large, unseen, creature stepping down the stairs behind us...
