The cat came back, the very next day...

by Aronel Deadeye

Unfortunately, the creature coming down the stairs was exactly what we thought it was... the Asura coming back to ambush us from behind. This made dealing with the Profane Ghoul, 3 Strigoi & a Derro Profane Ghoul a touch and go fight... Even Ogrim was dropped and almost killed! We healed up a bit and retreated back to our home to heal and rest. The following morning, everyone fought off the Ghoul Fever we knew at least some had. We quickly returned to the catacombs to keep searching for the missing clergy that acting Bishop Abridan had told us were holed up below. Opening the doors beyond where we had our last fight, we found another of the very large blood colored spiders we had previously fought in the graveyard. It said something in a language we did not know and then moved forward to attack. It was quickly joined by another from around the corner. As Deadeye moved past to find a safe spot to shoot from he passed close to a door at the other end of the hall. Blue glowing runes appeared and the door swung open, revealing a room down some stairs where he could see several figures. They appeared to be the missing clergy of Pharasma! He hollered down to let them know that the group was friendly and would be right with them once they dealt with some large spiders. Once the spiders were dealt with we headed down to speak with the survivors.
The "leader" introduced herself as Yniesse, a visitor to the cathedral. This group had stumbled upon a woman pouring her own blood into the former Bishop. When they saw this, they ran to this room and sealed themselves inside. They had been trapped here for 4 days, only opening the door briefly to allow "fresh" air in occasionally. They revealed to us that there had been rumors of diabolism with the family Ornelos that started the Academy. They also spoke of the family being involved with a Devil named Lorthact. He was apparently a cowardly creature. They said even revealing his name to the church of Eiseth would likely cause him to be debilitated, if not flee. Grett recalled that Eiseth was a goddess of night. He told us she was not a nice goddess. Brinna recalled the Grey Maiden we were looking for was named Yniesse. When she asked, Yniesse confirmed she was the same person. She told us that she was no longer interested in being involved with the Grey Maidens. Being stuck here gave her time to contemplate & reflect, leading to this decision. Yniesse said she would try to convince her followers to join her, in leaving the Grey Maidens. Brinna suggested they would probably be best to leave Korvosa. Yniesse agreed and they were soon gone.
We then returned to the catacombs to investigate further. Opening another set of doors we found only a room that may have given the impression of stepping into a starry night. The room had been defaced by claws almost destroying the writings that had once been predominant here. There was a statue of Pharasma here as well. We spent some time restoring the shrine as best we could. As we did so, we felt a glimpse of our fates. Searching where the Profane Ghouls had come from we found a rough hewn cover, filled with gnawed bones & a half dozen crude sleeping pallets. There were crude tunnels leading off, but of note was an ancient room that had been revealed by the tunneling of the Ghouls. Inside we found some treasure and an ancient skull. There was also a 6 foot tall stature of a woman with a beautiful cruel face. This depicted Runelord Sorshen. Beyond her parted lips we could a tunnel behind it. It seemed to be breathing in and out. This seemed to be used as a ventilation shaft, 6 inches wide. It detected as magical. Deadeye was able to recall that Sorshen also used this as a means of entrance/exit using a specific phrase. She also used this as a means to humiliate whoever used the mouth. Sorshen was known for enjoying humiliating people. We headed to report to the Queen.
