56. No salvation to be found in Salvation Report

General Summary

23rd-26th Eyre, 999 YK

  • Dax' Athla scribes some spells into her spellbook, and talks to Terfel about Thrane and stuff.
  • Kalshana summons the remaining horse from the robe of useful items, and Kyn puts a friendship bracelet on it. The horse's name is Stitch.
  • Dax spends some time making a standalone mosaic.
  • Lozaal and Terfel spar in the training room. Lozaal wins.
  • Terfel has spent some time talking to the salvage brokers that come to New Cyre about the Mournland and Salvation. He learns that the deal with New Cyre is specifically with the broker named Belaluur.
  • Terfel also learns some basic info about Draev Shaldor and Irullan Karnach.
  • They leave Avrahk Mbar'ost with a wagon and the two horses.
  3rd Dravago, 999 YK
  • They arrive in Starilaskur.
  12th Dravago, 999 YK
  • They arrive in Vathirond.
  • They buy 1 week's worth of feed for the horses.
    13th Dravago, 999 YK
  • They arrive in Salvation! It's Far, which is the equivalent of Friday. Friday the 13th. Warden says bad vibes.
  • They briefly explore and scope out the taverns. Two of them are squalid, and one is poor! They decide to sleep in the wagon tonight.
  • They pick up a copy of the Salvation Times, Issue 11.
  • They visit a shrine to The Traveller and Dax leaves an offering of some bones. Kalshana puts some cheese in the offering bowl.
  • They went to the Gray Beyond and looked at the salvage board. Belaluur is looking for a missing scout, a relic has been stolen from the Silver Flame Chapel, and there is a no questions asked danger job at the scrapyard at sunrise.
  • Dax goes to the chapel and speaks to Mother Jahanah. A relic, the Arrow of Truth, was stolen from the chapel by a changeling. They were seen taking it to Zodor Tarev, one of the brokers.
  • Kalshana goes to the Salvage Market and speaks to Belaluur. One of her scouts, a goblin named Garundah hasn't returned from scouting the lightning rail line. She's offering 100 gp each to bring her back alive, or 50 gp each for proof of her death.
  • The party went to the office of Zodor Tarev, a building on stilts with an upturned artillery wagon as a roof. They speak to him, and he says he doesn't know anything about the arrow. He sends them to Draev Shaldor.
  • Draev also claims ignorance, says the changeling Whist has been working for Zodor.
  • Sus
  • Dax found out where Draev's warehouse is.
  • Lozaal follows Zodor to the Gray Beyond and watches him eat dinner.
  • They then reconvene outside of Zodor's office and come up with a plan for what to do next. Warden totally suggests turning Nova into a spider and sending them in.
  • Nova doesn't find the arrow anywhere in the building.
  • Lozaal goes in and takes a diplomatic approach. Apologises for their earlier behaviour, and gets the truth out of Zodor.
  • Whist did bring him the arrow, but he didn't buy it. He did, however, send her into the Grey to salvage an abandoned elemental artillery piece. He gave Lozaal directions to get to it.
  • They send the horses back to Avrahk Mbar'ost and sleep in the wagon.
  14th Dravago, 999 YK
  • They leave the wagon on the outskirts of town, the horses still back at the base.
  • They ring the scrapyard bell at sunrise, and a little old man comes out to speak with them.
  • He's Irullan's assistant. Irullan has salvage rights to Big Moe (the colossus), and one of her scrap crews recently found a tunnel hidden beneath the colossus.
  • He offers them 40 gp each to investigate the tunnel. Lozaal tries to haggle, and the man says he is only authorised to dispense 40 gp each. Lozaal offers to go speak to Irullan.
  • The man is against this, and when Dax and Kal go to do it he protests. He claims that Irullan doesn't know about the tunnel, or that he's doing this. He suspects she's involved with whatever is happening under there.
  • He doesn't actually have enough money to pay them more than 40 gp each, but Lozaal is able to negotiate that they can keep one thing they find in the tunnel.
  • They descend into the tunnel. It goes down about 50 feet and then goes east. They realise it's crossing over into the Mournland.
  • They come to a pair of double doors, locked. Lozaal discovers a trap in the lock, which he disarms, and then unlocks.
  • They enter into the next room, and only Lozaal can see initially. There are piles of corpses down here. Yikes.
  • Lozaal scouts ahead and finds another door, and decides it's safe for Dax to light her lantern.
  • The corpse piles are all perfectly preserved, no obvious cause of death and no decomposition. It's very ominous.
  • Kalshana examines a body and confirms this, the bodies all seem healthy, but they're definitely not alive.
