Session 27: The Bat Is Flying on Thursday Afternoon
General Summary
Arriving in Dro'Desh, the party first looked for a coin merchant. Talking to one of the guards as they entered the city, they were directed up to the Canopy Market to find Rezan, a coin merchant. Weaving through the market stalls, they encountered an arguing Tabaxi male and female. The female claimed the male had stolen a statue of [Taranath from her house, while the male denied it. Believing him to be innocent, the party offered to investigate, but the female turned the outsiders down. Rezan was unable to shed any light on the Yuan-Ti gold pieces, other than that they seemed to have been minted some time ago, but she agreed to look into them. She also paid the party 6 gp each for 120 of the unusual coins, and she also directed them to a guardhouse in a tree on one side of the market where they could likely find Robassi. Outside the guardhouse, a pair of Tabaxi guards refused to fetch Robassi for the party. Alden put some coins down as a bribe, but the male guard picked them up, seemingly attracted to the shiny items. As they argued, the female guard compared Alden to Kah'ren Silvertail, a wealthy Tabaxi female who was always being a nuisance, raising trouble with the guards and bothering the retail workers by asking to speak to their managers. Bothered by the noise, Robassi pushed open an upper window and dumped a bucket of water on the guards and Alden and Shadow. Noticing the party, and recalling Kina's description of them, he came down and introduced himself. Filled in by the party, they decided the next thing to do was to ask some question of the Yuan-Ti they defeated in the Shifter's Catacombs. Robassi led the group to the Temple of Treemenders, a small group of clerics who deify nature rather than any of The Six. Ugnar, a half-orc cleric, led the group to a private room and cast Tongues on Rome and Speak With Dead on the Yuan-Ti head. Rome tried to claim that there was an army of a hundred thousand marching north from New Throden to Marash, offering to resurrect the yuan-ti and give her a position in Marash. The Yuan-Ti seemed to confirm the location of Marash, but said that the army would surely be destroyed. Rome mentioned the plant in The Atheneum, but the yuan-ti knew nothing about that. Rome implied the "Snake Eyes In The Sky' was some kind of physical being, but the yuan-ti said it wasn't what they thought it was. She mentioned the Sisterhood of the Viper, not explaining what that was, and said a serpent tide was coming and that all would be washed away. Following the interview, Shadow spoke with someone else in the temple for an hour while the party waited for him. Returning to the Canopy Market, the party bumped into J'Dira. On her first night back from her recent caravan trip to Eleth Lilanor, she was drinking in one of the Dro'Desh pubs and mentioned the crystal she'd won from Ogvai. The following night, it was stolen from her mantlepiece. She figured the culprit was Nahlia, a Tabaxi who grew up in Eleth Telnara and retired young as a wealthy merchant, returning to Dro'Desh. J'Dira had seen Nahlia wandering around often at night, which seemed unusual. She recruited the party to stake out her house while she talked up another item, hoping to catch the thief in the act.
