Allow SVG as a filetype for maps

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Maps support several filetypes, but fail to support a graphic type very well suited to large maps with zoom-able detail, SVG; I have several maps that are SVGs which World Anvil lets me upload, and will sometimes display (e.g. when I'm in the map page and open the "update primary image", the svg will show properly, but in presentation view, it displays as empty). This feature request is to make SVGs render properly in presentational/useful views

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Allows SVGs to be used and displayed for maps, rather than a blank screen.

What are other uses for this feature request?

SVGs can give great quality and clear resolution at any zoom level without overly bloated file sizes, even on maps which would otherwise be very large.

The Team's Response

This is already part of the "possible" feature set for Atlas (the new version of Maps) - This did not receive much support so it is accepted just as a reminder of the people interested.

I agree this is a nice feature, but I tend to create highly complicated vector graphics so I can also sympathize with the difficulty of implementing this to work in a solid fashion.

Considering we have editable zooming depths, svgs would be nice to have to avoid pixelation

Maps are an ideal place to support vector graphics, particularly as every browser on the market large enough to be counted supports SVG. Even Chrome for Android and the Samsung Internet browsers added it at the start of August 2022, while other browsers have supported SVG since 2015 or earlier!
