Settlement Geography article subdivisions Template

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

At present, a settlement can be fleshed out with a number of suggested article subheadings, such as "Defenses", "Industry and Trade" and "Demographics". One glaring addition is an subheading for the inclusion of "Districts" or "Points of Interest". This forces the detailing of minor, but important, facets of a settlement to another article, or awkwardly wedged into an inappropriate subheading. A natural home for settlement subdivisions would greatly improve article flow.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

While this feature can presumably be replicated with custom article templates, a more straightforward option for many users would be the inclusion of a dedicated "Subdivision" or "Point of Interest" subheading.   Take for example, a typical city as a base settlement. While there are ample tools for describing the city at large, it is more difficult to explain notable neighborhoods, such as "The Docks", "the Merchant Quarter", or "the Slums". These can be further developed with their own articles, but for quick reference or less important areas, this level of detail is unnecessary. A dedicated subheading would allow explanation of these areas of low/mid-level importance, or provide a quick snapshot of an important area rather than a stand-alone dedicated article. This would be similar to the "Guilds and Factions" sub-heading, which allows a natural home for "Organizations", despite full articles existing for those as well.   A similar addition could be made for "points of interest", such as a settlement's church, bank, fountain or mayor's house that merits mention, but not a dedicated article, placing these within the city in a natural, easy to find place.

What are other uses for this feature request?

A similar adjustment could be used for the "Geography" article, along similar logic, allowing a writer to direct attention to a particular feature or area within a wider geography without requiring a dedicated article for a passing feature.

The Team's Response

This suggestion did not reach the required level of support during its voting period.
  • The subdivisions and Points of Interest prompts will be added
  • The same should be made also as a list format to link to other articles using the sidebar.
  • In all honesty I am not sure both should be implemented or not, this will need to be investigated.
