Returne to old Editor and Category Layout

User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) · Quick editor / explorer · Created by PeaceFighter

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

A rollback to the old layout or at least a toggle to switch to the old layout. (Like with the different editors.)

I know there is the possibility to switch to the old layout for a certain article.
But this way I always have to do 2-3 klicks just to open a article I want to work in. This is quite some overhead if I have to adapt multiple members of a family for example.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

The new layout is missing critical features and is plagued with bugs:

  1. Can't reorder articles inside a Category
  2. Articles not shown in Tree-View (on certain devices)
  3. Cannot load mentionslist of article.
  4. Cannot create relationships and diplomacy.

The old editor and layout had all the features i pay for and worked just fine.

The new one feels like a beta version without features i pay for.

A toggle would enable us to keep working while you finish your work on the final release of the new layout.

What are other uses for this feature request?

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Since releasing the new UI we have implemented a ton of improvements and optimizations based on the feedback from the community, so I encourage you to try it again! If you have specific feedback or questions, please use the dedicated help and feedback channels you'll find in the "?" button at the top right.   Article re-ordering is now part of the new UI, and articles not showing happens rarely and can be fixed with a button click (as shown in the report you linked). The Referenced In panel and diplomacy webs are still in the old edit only, but will become part of the new one. The update will not be rolled back, but I encourage you to look at the guide for articles & world manager to learn about how it works!

When I die and have to account for my earthly sins, I expect it to resemble the new user interface.

Wow. Nice to see there's alot more people unhappy with the "improvements" foisted upon the community. I hope higher ups listen and don't go down the route I've seen other communities take.

I have been struggling so much with the new UI and I find it incredibly unpleasant to work with. It is slow, clunky, oversized and unintuitive. As difficult as the old one might seem, I found it a lot more pleasant to use.

Just came into WA after taking a break to see the new editor coming up as the default. You can still access the old editor, but you have to select that preference EVERY single time you want to edit something, no matter how small the edit is that you're making. So instead of one click, I now have to click to edit the article, then go down to the little tripple dots and have it bring up the old editor, and then I can make the edit I was originally going to make. For those asking why not just use the new editor for something quick like that, it's because the new editor is still really buggy for me, and it's been messing up my articles. Plus, it doesn't have the same functionality as the old editor. Why are the pushing the new editor when it clearly is not finished or optimized yet?   I appreciate the spirit of trying new things and innovation, but that only works if the changes made are actually good and don't actually just make things worse. Why change something that was fine the way it was? If it's not broken, don't "fix" it.   Example: Why is it an "improvement" to need to manually turn on every single prompt? Why is it an "improvement" to forcibly ad an icon to your article title that needs to be deleted every single time you go back into editing it if you don't want it there?

I really don't understand how the new ui can be sold as an improvement when it removed so many core functionalities. I've been trying to make myself use it to get more used to it, but I keep having to go back into the old edittor becuase the functions i want straight up don't exist in the new edittor. And not being able to reorder entries in a category is infuriating!

I am meeting a lot of Frustration with this new editor. I have spent an hour just trying to get the Gallery to post an image. Stop fixing things that are not broken and making them worst!

Please make this toggleable!! Test with the new editor, sure, if that's what you want the UI to be (I still prefer the old one) but at least let us get what we paid for.

I absolutely loathe the changes. What could have been a finished article by now has next to no progress on it because I'm just trying to figure out how to add things that used to be simple to add.

I really like the new editor for quicker updates and smaller articles, but the old one was really clear and undistracting, I feel like I have to dig to find the stuff I need and I hate that to open the old editor I need to click like 3+ buttons especially when proof reading an article I'm working on. I'm low key dreading worldember for this and currently the only work around I have to save that time is to have two tabs open, one with the world view and one with the old editor. This would be so great and appease all parties I think.

I don't agree with the whole "rollback" to the old editor version, since the new one does have it's benefits and I am certain many prefer it. I also disagree with the "rollback" on the category layout, I quite like the new one. What I DO agree on is to add some sort of toggle to make the "edit article" button lead directly to the old version editor without the extra clicks.

I have found some distinct advantages to the new layout, but ultimately the "beta" feel is very pronounced. Especially true when it fails to save, I have to go back into the article to retype the last word I wrote. In the meantime, while the kinks are being worked out, it would be nice to more easily toggle between old and new, a single button that is always displayed, instead of being buried in a submenu that is 3 clicks away.

I'm undecided on how I feel about the new layout as a whole, but I think a toggleable option to revert to the old one would be nice for people who do feel strongly about it. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with learning a new workflow in the middle of 'Ember season

Please include a feature to change the basic editor when clicking the "edit article" button. I do not want to change manually every time. The new editor is not optimised and does not include certain features I came to love.   Two Options:   1. Include an option on the profile or world to set the basic editor to either the old or new version   2. scrap the new editor

I want to love the new layout, but its significantly harder to navigate with even more menus and buttons to press. It's so buggy and hard to use.

I don't know who thought the new editor was a good idea, and I don't know when it got rolled out since I didn't see any sort of media or questioning about a new tool. Did this go through trial with the community? Because the only responses I've seen are that people hate it. Revert to the old one, or dismantle the new one until it works and has the prompts like the old one did.

It takes way too long to create bulk articles in the new style. Waiting for the page to re-load each time I create the name so I don't end up with duplicates is incredibly frustrating.

After taking the time of a minimum learning, my opinion is that the new editor is more efficient and easy to use that the older for what I need to do. I To be honest, this required me an effort in order to modify my workflow in order to use the new capabilities… I think this this normal when a software evolves. I see that the development team is solving the bugs one after the other at a quick pace, so I am happy of being patient while they are working. Asking for « A rollback to the old layout or at least a toggle » is just ignoring the fact that other people can like this new interface. So, I cast this vote to show my disagreement with the idea of a « rollback to the old layout » and the fact the toggling option is just « at least ».
