profession freelancer type

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

There's not really a good option for a witcher/monster hunter or bounty hunter type of profession.

  • Bounty hunters could arguably go into "law enforcement", but they're more commonly associated with criminals, outlaws, and other morally-gray individuals.
  • "Illicit" could also technically work, as it aligns more with the beyond-the-law side, but (as far as I'm aware) the word illicit has somewhat of a promiscuous charge to it. Additionally, if a monster/bounty hunter profession ISN'T illegal, forbidden, or frowned upon, but still isn't a form of law enforcement, it still doesn't quite have a category to fit into.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

"Freelancer" grants a generic term in the type menu for professions that are not necessarily organized or lawful, but still highly skilled.

What are other uses for this feature request?

"Freelancer" could also be used for unique professions that more loosely (or don't at all) apply to real life categories, but are not magical in nature. An example could be ornamental hermits, people who were encouraged and hired to permanently live on a wealthy estate as a "novelty guest."

The Team's Response

Hello! Thanks for submitting this feature request, and to all who considered and voted on it. Having discussed this with the team, we have not added Freelancer to the profession template, as we do not believe that is in the spirit of the other entries in the dropdown. However we have added Contractor, which we feel aligns more with the rest of the entries. We also added Hunter (which we spotted was missing), if that helps your specific BountyHunter use case?   Janet
