What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
For some uses (such as RPG campaigns), the Timescale view is not practical, since all events that happen in the same year will be grouped together. I know that the List Mode exists, but I like how the Timescale mode presents the passage of time between events.
If viewers could adjust the increment of the Timescale Mode to Years, Months, Days, or Hours, the timeline would render events more tightly or more broadly apart.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
By allowing users to "zoom in" / "zoom out" while viewing the timeline, they could choose whether they want to view long or short periods of time.
What are other uses for this feature request?
This feature would be useful for any timeline that includes many events in the same year.
The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! Such a feature would require incredibly complicated calculations to run behind the scenes to account for the arbitrary amount and durations of months, days, and other time units in any world that can be created. We're closing this for now because we're not in a position to implement that now, but we might look into this for a future long-term update.
That said, you can use
Chronicles, which include granularity settings for viewing the timeline. Timelines in timescale mode also group events in the same year into a stacked event that you can click to get a detailed timeline of that year.
