Mentions Mention Articles Links

Persistent Mention Article Links

How does this feature request address the current situation?

What If?

What if there was another type of mention article link?
A Persistent Mention Article Link.   In the attached article for this suggestion you will see I used an article block inside a container with a splash of css to remove all of the "blocky" stuff and leave the article link. Please click the article link below to see the persistent mention example.
  • The name is based on the current article name.
  • The link persists regardless of renaming the article

  •
Please note this suggestion IS NOT a suggestion of how to implement this.
Only a suggestions to provide ...
  • A persistent mention article link
  • Link name updates as the article is renamed
  • Link does not break when renaming the article
  • Easy to call like a mention
  •

    What Next ...

  • What would it look like?
  • How would it be triggered?
  • What if it defaulted to persistent?
  • What if it could be called as the current mention?
  • What if it could be named as it is now?
  • I am sure there is a better way and deeper technical details...
  • Below are a few recommendations by World Anvil users...

  • Leading Recommendation

The beauty of this is a mention brings the * which uses the article name as it is currently, this functions identical to and Article Block Title. This also does not break any existing use of the mention in a Named method. To not use the persistent * you do what you do now provide your own name.

As someone who sucks at sticking with names, this would be awesome. I would suggest it supplant the mention system if it is implemented.

This would be especially useful with placeholder names, allowing linking to articles still while the name is considered.

Definitely useful for me, who keeps retconning and refactoring names for things as I go.   I'm not a fan of any of the stuffhere suggestions as even * might be a valid attempt at a link that just says *. The [articlelink:2c8e8eac-eff4-4119-8fb6-9d48315c6e69] idea might be the best suggested option here, or (Omitting the entirely).

Good idea. Even though I do edit the text quite often for article mention links, mostly to get something grammatical in a sentence where the full title doesn't work, in other cases, I would definitely prefer that the text changed if the article title changed. I like an "*" being used to mean substitute text dynamically, although I wonder if this might have performance implications.

What about just having an alias table for renaming? Those guids are really hard to remember.

A means of linking to articles and having the link text always updated to the current article title would be a fabulous and very useful feature!
