Institute of Imperial Alchemy

The Institute of Imperial Alchemy is the largest organisation of alchemy in the empire of Zuladiar. It follows a school of alchemy that focuses upon the four elements represented in the existence of the four deities. However, it also functions partially as an archive for alchemical texts found both within the Zuladiaran borders and from outside of the realm.

Structure

The Institute of Imperial Alchemy is led by a Grandmaster, found at the primary location of the Institute. The Grandmaster is chosen by their predecessor and is someone with great knowledge and deep understanding of alchemy. They lead the organisation and decide much of its operations and research.   Below the Grandmaster are the Four Elemental Masters, the Master of Stars, Master of Sea, Master of the Sky and Master of Soil, who have specialised knowledge in the different aspects of the elemental alchemy practised at the Institute. Their primary task is to teach apprentices of the Institute, both personal apprentices as well as the general student body of the Institute.

Assets

The Institute's greatest asset is the knowledge collected over many decades. Aside from the alchemists of both natural and magical varieties, the institute has gathered text on alchemy in its vast library. Although the majority of these texts are in the languages of and by the various people within the borders of the empire, there are also related texts both translated and in their original languages.   Additionally, the Institute also has access to materials for transmutations and potion-making, as well as the coin to gather even the rarest materials or buy them from distant lands.   The Institute also has a building dedicated to Imperial Alchemists in the Imperial Capital, but they also have a separate location that acts as a learning institute for apprentices as well as main main facilities for the alchemical crafts.

History

Originally, the Institute of Imperial Alchemy was a small school started by a single alchemist by the name of Eranuk dakh-Hibtür. He took in more than one apprentice in his time as an alchemist, passing his craft down to his apprentices. Upon his passing, his primary apprentice Žaniat Murag gathered those of his generation and pledged to pass the knowledge of the alchemical master down. At this time, there had already begun to be a few organised schools of alchemy, but the School of Hibtür found its footing rather quickly because of their philosophies and ideologies about the connection between the four deities and the craft of alchemy.   Over time, the school established itself within the alchemical world and caught the eye of the Imperial Clan. With the close connection to the Imperial Clan, it was no wonder that the practise of the School of Hibtür would become recognised as the Imperial Alchemy, and it was bestowed the name Institute of Imperial Alchemy in ca 875 CE.
