Princess Meryum Reigh Hukaru

Princess, Sir Meryum Reigh Hukaru (a.k.a. Mery)

Key Childhood Events  At her birth, her mother slipped into a coma for three years  She was born a twin, extremely rare in the Royal Family  Raised by Queenie Arbutus for three years  Her mother woke up on her third birthday during the party  Just before her fifth birthday she was caught training with Troy, she is put in training at age five with the other squires  Just before her eighth birthday she makes ‘the promise’ to her father that she will protect her sister, even from her own knights and lords if needed  At eight she gets her own tower (bedroom, wardrobe, private library  At twelve she visits Stonewave with her sister and father   Romantic Interests  Troy Arbutus – he respects her and loves her. He calms her fear that no man could love someone so unladylike. She loves him back.  Lars Veles – crown princes of Eastcourt in Tantaria. He is very interested in claiming and taming Mery by any means necessary. She doesn’t love or trust him.  Erjon Edain – lord’s son in Tantaria and Mery’s ally in the war. He loves her at first sight but she takes longer to warm up to him because she’s mourning Troy’s death  Suitors – few are named, most are interested in her for political reasons   Enemies  Ohanzee Fidor – killed her father, kidnapped her mother, stole her throne, started a war in two countries  Darius Fidor – gained their trust and betrayed them to his father  L’Damon and L’Darin – The Massarian ambassador plots to take over the throne by having his son marry one or both of the princesses  Jackson Veles – tries to manipulate Mery into fighting his war and marrying his son, Lars. Sells out to the Haider  Kale Veles – tries to force himself on Sephy  Haider – the beast-people of the Cursed Side and invaders of Tantaria, the whole reason Tantaria is at war, allies of Ohanzee Fidor. They later make peace     Rivals  Luke Arbutus, Zaine Fidor, Robin Gregal – these three young men are too interested in Sephy for Mery’s liking. She keeps to her promise and keeps them away from Sephy as best she can  Tatyonym Vivaltor Aris – though not exactly rivals, these two cousins don’t see eye-to-eye on anything until after they are reunited after the war. They eventually reconcile  Squires – various rivals in training, never named, Zaine and Luke are among these   Friends and Allies  Christopher – one of her classmates and fellow squires, they train with her and he rides East with her after the initial battle  Sir Zuan and Sir Taggart – squire masters and members of Tritaton’s council. They ride East with Mery after the initial battle and become her advisors. Zuan dies with Troy in East Court.  Lord Edain – Erjon’s father. He helps Mery escape Eastcourt and provides his home to her as a base of operations. He dies during the war.  Arissa Solist Veles – Queen of Tantaria. She betrays her husband and helps Mery escape Eastcourt. She gives Mery the magic scroll that will allow her to write to Sephy instantly. Jackson executes her for it  Lord Veles – a distant relative of Jackson’s and Lord Edain. He calls for Mery’s aid but dies before help arrives  Sepherym Hukaru – her twin. They are separated by the war but help each other as much as possible.  Andrake Jassal – become friends when he moves to Caprex. He makes her smile and keeps her temper in check, sometimes.   Personality and Motives Meryum values loyalty, commitment, respect, strength, and keeping promises. While she values honesty she also understands the need for secrecy, diplomatic white lies, and half truths. She is better at secrets and half truths than she is at diplomacy. She began training because her father thought it was a good idea for her to see what her future knights and soldiers go through. She continued because she enjoyed it and because she was good at it. She hides the depth of her ability because she doesn’t want the boys she’s training with to hate her – she needs them as allies, they need to accept her and respect her. She is afraid that being queen and getting married will mean giving up who she is and what she loves. She feels she must defend her choices to everyone, that no one understands or approves. She acted the tom-boy fighter to an extreme because she thought compromise equalled failure. She must learn to use tact and etiquette. She must learn to be feminine when the occasion calls for it. She must learn that her friends and allies respect and accept her. She gets in trouble in Tantaria when she gets over confident in her abilities. Her broken heart also makes her shut people out and she must learn to trust and care again.
