The metal is being found inside the comets that fall from the sky during the Comet shower. The metal itself is dark gray, but those not have a shine to it.
Physical & Chemical Properties
When it is being chipped off the comet it is still radioactive. It depends on the size of the comet how strong this is. The largest comet near the Cathedral of the Night is still intact because of the strong activity.
Once it is being melted and refined it those not have that effect anymore. However, it is being whispered that the jewelry made out of this metal give the witch that wears it extra magical power.

The comets came out of space in the year 1000, they have being untouched for 100 years. After that the first pieces were being harvested and melted into metal.

The discovery that the metal was useable was something that was found out by a group of witches that were stupid enough to get close enough to do the work.

The metal is being used for jewelry for witches.
It is being whispered that the jewelry made out of this metal give the witch that wears it extra magical power. Only this is not being proven, only because of the whispers the witches are not allowed to wear much jewelry.
Only the Three Witches are allowed to wear more.

The comets of itself are radioactive so getting close is risking one's health. Or even the health of others.
Environmental Impact
The close surroundings were greatly effected by the comets, most of all those pieces of space rock left a sizable greater. That was only the first effect, the second one is the radioactivity. This is the source of mutated animals, and some Scribs believe that magic is just some sort of mutation as well.

smaller jewelry has being made and traded on the market, the value of the items varies between just a few copper pieces and a lot of copper pieces.
Law & Regulation
It is not allowed for normal witches to wear a lot of jewelry or big pieces. This rule however those not apply for the Three Witches.
