2015 - 02/14 - Captain Orevel's Report

General Summary

I have been observing the new people in town. Some of them have been here for a while and I feel confident saying they aren’t dangerous to our people here, but some of them…

Tessara and Arberitha have lived here ever since Manford was destroyed fifteen years ago. They live in the boarding house and are mostly good people. Kotri came in with the band during the recent dragon problems and did a pretty good job of handling herself. She’s a dwarf and seems to get a little excited when there’s ale involved, but otherwise seems like good people. Newcomers Lem and Rygor may take a little more sorting out. Lem seems a good sort, but Rygor has me worried.

Tessera, Kotri and Arberitha had all signed up with the Guard previously and agreed to investigate our robberies. At the time, they had Elivira, another elf along for the ride but she must have decided to drop out for a while. Instead, they showed up with Lem and Rygor. Lem seemed pretty excited to sign up for service and we could always use the recruits, but Rygor decided not to. I gave them the information we had about the robberies and who to contact and they went on their way.

According to Rae and Zea, the group came by to talk to them about their break-in. Mostly, I know Rygor in particular got on Zea’s nerves and she silenced him for a while. It seems like the party in general was relieved for the quiet. They also stopped by to see Miss Flora, poor thing. After some hopping around town, they also stopped back in to see me.

And see me they did. I couldn’t believe the aggression coming out of Tessera and Rygor in particular. They were interrogating me about the elves and half-elves in town and when they heard that Shaske was a tall half-elf with braided hair, they got very pushy. Now, I know my daughter hasn’t exactly kept her nose clean and I didn’t like the people she’d been hanging around with—that Roge character in particular—but I wasn’t going to assume she was at fault here! When Tessera started to shout at me and Rygor demanded information, I made an admittedly emotional decision: I fired Tessera from the watch and threatened to arrest Rygor if he didn’t calm down. It was extremely unpleasant, but I hope they learned something from the experience.

In the end, I did tell them which way I’d had seen the party leaving town, so they decided to pursue. Well after nightfall, they returned with Shaske, Roge and their cohort, a woman named Sybil in tow. Apparently, they had wanted to display their catch. It was more than slightly humiliating for both Shaske and myself. My poor daughter. I hope she can find some level of peace within herself by serving her debt to society.

The following morning, I paid out the bounty on the investigation and the party went to return the stolen spoils to the families who had been stolen from. They also went shopping and distributed some apparent apology money to the victims. I have hope that they’ll be upstanding citizens, but I’m still worried at the aggression and apparent carelessness for the emotional wellbeing of others I’ve observed. I reinstated Tessera, but it’s probationary.
