Nocturnal Unit (Snake Unit)
the Nocturnal Unit is an elite group of soldiers that are active at nighttime, and often used for nighttime missions. If an important mission is happening that may involve being active at night, or might last a couple days, so they will need someone actively keeping watch at night, they are often assigned someone who was trained in the Nocturnal Unit, or the "Snake Unit", a derogatory term.
Everyone in The Kingdom of The Moons is technically born into the royal army. Cities closer to the capital, are more active and involved with training and preparedness for war and being drafted to a mission or a post. Meanwhile, Small farming villages and towns nearing the boarders of the kingdom's edge are less likely to actually practice diligent training and see being born into the royal army as more of a token phrase.
You are born into a branch of the army depending on your power at birth, their are three power types people can be born with, so their are three branches of the military. You are divided by your age and power level. Their are divisions for each age group, and you are ranked within your division from most powerful to least. A division "Ages out" of the army when everyone in that division is dead.
Anyone from any division, and branch can be in the Nocturnal unit, and they would be both in their power/age group division, and the one Nocturnal Until separately, but simultaneously.
There is a recessive mutated gene within the Luner population that leads to about .1% of the population to have Vertically elongated, pupils. We can see this genetic marvel in cats and snakes. a rare gene that leads to incredible night vision, and incredible vision in general. While treasured in the royal army, and invaluable during an ambush attack, those with this genetic anomaly often find themselves mistrusted, and seen as frightening.
It is common for those in the Snake Unit to feel alienated, to have curtain shops they know they are more welcome at. It is frowned upon, but not completely uncommon for them to be turned away from certain businesses for seemingly no reason. It is derogatory to call someone with genetic mutation "snake eyes", but it is a common occurrence.
The further you go from the capital, the less this mutation is understood, and the more discrimination they face. If you are born with this mutation, it is important to be invaluable to the royal army or die trying.
