Adenim
The Floating City, an entire city that rests atop a floating island, lies 100 feet off the ground near the center of the Dancing Dunes, although its exact position changes over time. The island has its own weather seperate from the dunes below, receiving a moderate amount of rain and calmer winds.
Infrastructure
Building atop a floating island was not, and still is not, an easy task. Without the development of airships, it is likely the island wouldn't have been settled at all. But after the first retractable bridge, an incredibly complex folding contraption, was deployed the process for building atop the island was as difficult as getting materials to it inside the dunes.
The first thing built of the city was its complex water-duct system, which was designed to collect rainwater and allow for removal of waste. The network has begun to fail over the past several years, and is under constant repair.
The Adenians are currently working on construction of an anchor system they can use to "lock" the city in place.
History
For a thousand years, the island went undiscovered due to the unnecessary risk of travelling through the dunes, and the presumed death of any who chose to. But after the invention of airships, travelling over the dunes was the fastest route from north to south Myrthul. It wasn't until ten years after its discovery that a small group from Aknara decided to explore, and eventually settle, the island.
Because of its location Adenim was host to a great number of Dalurian refugees during the Abyss War. The city, having limited space, was forced to turn many away and even still there was a struggle to provide food and suitable shelter.
Geography
Adenim is not the only floating island in Zantin, but it is the only one to hover over Myrthul. The island itself is only a few miles in length and width and has been terraformed over the past century to have a near flat top, leaving only its jagged bottom.
