Armistice

Armistice is an archangel of Sherazan. For more than a thousand years, he has tirelessly devoted himself to a single task, entrusted to him by the Lion of Wisdom himself: guarding the Smoldering Divide, which separates the City of Brass and the realm of the Genies from the rest of Zahar - City. As a creature who has existed for millenia, Armistice was witness to the horrors and blasphemies of The Genie-Pharaoh Wars, in which the arrogant priests of Horak nearly destroyed all existence by summoning a physical manifestation of the infernal scarab. After Hippolyta's sacrifice, Sherazan swore that such a war would never again bring Zahar to the brink of anihillation, and so carved the Smoldering Divide. He commisioned armisice to lead a band of lesser angelic lions in an eternal vigil over this threshold. For centuries they have made their den atop the Island Mausoleum. But powerful as he is, Armistice has not always succeeded in this task. Some genies have circumvented the fiery storms of the divide by navigating the subterranean streams deep beneath the desert. Others may have transgressed through means unknown. On certain rare occassions, Armistice has granted permission to certain adventurers whose reasons for braving the crossing are noble and sanctioned by the gods. The sphinx weighs their purity of heart by subjecting them to the Trials of Yusuf beneath the mausoleum, as he did with the party when they sought to sail The Evening Breeze to the City of Brass.
