Dietary Needs and Habits
Torch lampreys feast upon the blood of various animals, numbing the skin, then using its teeth to suck the blood from it.
Behaviour
Torch lampreys love drinking blood. They produce a bright light from its stomach which attracts predators near. When the lamprey feels vibrations in the water, it turns off the light. Then, it will swim towards the predator and will inject an acid through its two teeth which will numb any pain in that area. The lamprey then sucks blood from the predator, making it almost triple in size. When the lamprey has drank enough blood it will simply swim away, sleeping on the sea bed until it gets hungry again.
