Adamnification of Norrab

CW: Talks of colonisation, riots, death, genocide

As an entry to WorldEmber 2024, this article is a major work in progress.
Native Norrabian by Mochi

The adamnification of Norrab is a cultural, historical, and societal event that has lasted eight hundred years, and may still exist hundreds of years in the future. The adamnification has been a complex movement, a shift from a world inhabited exclusively by native peoples and organisms, to one overrun by those from a neighbouring planet, Adamne.

Adamnans, a sophont species from Adamne, sought refuge on Norrab after the Godkin Coup forced many out of their homelands. They have forced native norrabians out of their homes and territories, causing many ethnic groups to go extinct thanks to suppression. What as once a peaceful, subsistence-based planet, has now been manufactured into one centered around productivity and monoculturalism.

Norrabians have fought back ever since adamnans first arrived on Norrab. Adamnans first landed in the Sian Highlands and immediately began terraforming the land to their liking. Ecosystems were destroyed beyond repair, people were forced out of their homes, just so adamnans felt comfortable.

Riots

This event has caused a massive divide between the two species on Norrab. Both groups struggle to get along within society, and countless conflicts have taken place, both on a small and a large scale. The Norrabian Riots were a series of rebellions that first took place just nineteen years after the arrival of adamnans. Over a thousand riots were held across the planet, norrabians pushing back against the rising waves of adamnans that seemed to flood norrabian territories.

Few of these riots were successful - most were dealt with by adamnan military organisations, actively oppressing norrabians, leading to many innocent deaths. Along the Algol river in southern Russai is a memorial garden with seven pillars, etched with the names of every civilian that lost their live in the Norrabian Riots.

Adamnan Forces

Gorsona

A force to be reckoned with

Gorsona was a leading force in the initial colonisation of Norrab. This large country on Adamne is not one to turn down a fight, and at the time had the largest military force.

Adamnan military forces were far beyond anything norrabians could have imagined at the time. While norrabians were finding their footing as established sophonts, adamnans were producing highly advanced military weaponry, capable of mass-slaughter in seconds. While their mission was never genocide, adamnan military forces quietly slipped into that territory, following orders from their superiors to clear out entire existing civilisations.

Gorsona had a military force of over two hundred thousand soldiers, deployed on all four continents of Norrab. Gorsonian soldiers were equipped with powerful weaponry and even stronger defences, rendering any defending attacks from norrabians useless.

Titani

Technological Wizardry

The rate of manufacturing in Titani is unmatched. The Adamnan country supplied the globe with advanced weaponry, some utilising high concentrations of magic.

Adamnans had studied the norrabian species prior to colonisation, determining they lacked predatory instincts and would be easy to remove and relocate. What they hadn't anticipated is their ability to adapt to such new and frightening situations.

Norrabians quickly snapped, unleashing a hidden hostility within the once peaceful people. The adamnification of Norrab turned from global terraforming and transformation to quashing those that fought back. Terraforming equipment and machinery were retrofitted with ranged weapons, in an attempt to stop sabotage of said machinery.

Do love the art! I'm also realy scared to think what kind of weaponry could cause near genocide in such short amount of time.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

Thank you so much! Adamnans are scary people, and I haven't quite figured out their technological level but I know they're very advanced D:

Oh, I feel that, putting something into the lore, and then later having to figure out what it actually is. It's half my lore sometimes xD

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

I have to ask how you wound up making Adamnan and Narrob enemies? I hope this isn't off some sort of observed abuse between Ademal and I! Haha!   A fantastic article, even if the topic is a real sad situation. The universe is a cruel place.

It's definitely not! I originally wrote Norrab to be solely inhabited by Adamnans, but when I had the idea to include native peoples I realised it would be a great time to explore a clash of cultures, and do some serious cultural and historic worldbuilding that I never normally do. Besides, Ethnis is greatly inspirational to me and I think it's fitting that your two's planets have pushed me far outside of my comfort zone, and I have had a great time developing this planet! <3

Think they'll look back on this one day and go "shit, why'd we do that"? Btw found another typo 'etched with the names of every civilian that lost their live in the Norrabian Riots.'
