Ceremony of translation

The Ceremony of Translation is as old as the Snow elves themselves. Without it, new communities wouldn't survive in the hostile environment of the northern regions of Teria. The Sacred Spell that enables the creation of the Artificial Sun is passed from generation to generation and from the High Priest of the mother city to the High priest of the new city.   This ceremony is always performed once it is decided inside a community, due to overpopulation, to found a new settlement in another cave.

First part of the ceremony

The first part of the ceremony begins with a religious ceremony at the main temple of the settlement where the ones that would be chosen to found a new settlement would ask the Sky father for his protection and guidance. The High priest will pass a candle around them as an act of purification and protection and then the settlers prostrate themselves before the statue of the god.   After that a banquet is organized in the middle of the town for the people that is going to found the new settlement. This meal is made up of tradition dishes from the settlement, and their recipes are given to them in order to "not forget their hometown". Dances and music are also performed at the banquet.

Second part of the ceremony

The next day the settlers and the rest of the population gather at the magic door to say a final goodbye to their now former neighbours and relatives that decided to go to such an adventure in order to prosper and have a better life. The petty king of the settlement gives his blessings and a flag which has been made by the people of the settlement is offer to the group. This flag will become the flag of the new elven settlement. After this comes the most important and most famous part of the ceremony, when the High Priest whispers to the most noble the Sacred Spell that will enable him to create an artificial sun in their new cave and he is also given a sceptre with an orb and its named High Priest of the new community.   In the Old days that was all. If somehow the noble died along the way to founding the new settlement the entire group of settlers was doomed and was forced to return to the town or city they'd came from. Nowadays the High priest also gives a sealed scroll containing the Sacred Spell so that if something happens to the noble leader of the expedition, another one of equal rank can become high priest, take the lead and found a new settlement creating a new artificial sun.

Before leaving their settlement the group of settlers made an oath in front of the Magic Door never to forget their hometown and that they and they descendants won't be hostile to the city and that both settlements will help each other in times of need. Of course, they also promise to send an emissary once the new city is founded.

Beautiful, makes me imagine certain feasts from fantasy movies and books. Well done!

This is such a beautiful sounding feast. It must be a time of mixed joy and sorrow. I like that it's changed over time to lead to the actual expedition failing less.
