Catari

Catari is an iceball of a world which has considerable, but not exorbitant, mineral wealth. At one time the duchy seat, it is currently licking the wounds of the Assault of Catari.

Demographics

The destruction of the domed cities on Catari shifted the balance of races to mostly non-human Folk, particularly goblins, dwarves and (notably) some trolls who are suited to a life of mining and living underground.

Government

Catari is home to Baron Boda, and the other settlements which exist are overseen in classic Hegemony Feudal style.

Industry & Trade

Though Catari has significant mineral wealth, even more of similiar minerals were found in the Nula system (most of it on asteroids - which miners prefer because of the easier extraction process). Catari does have an impressive industrial center in Eneann heights which is also homed to an effective school of MagiTechnicians and other craftsfolk.

History

Catari is the initial settlement of the Anular Radiance. A small metallic world, whose thin atmosphere was breathable with some effort, in some places it was found to have natural caves whose atmospheres were a little more hospitable. A few large underground cities were built initially as a colonial effort. Considerable mineral wealth was found to be in the planet, and that soon became the focus of the developing, prosperous and quickly growing settlement.   The first domed habitats were primarily agro domes designed to supplement food, but the abundance of silicates and the mineral wealth led to 7 large City Domes - Aneadur Falls, Blade's Bastion, Caeda, Crown City, Eneann Heights, Ramscath, and X'lloh Mountain - being built which were capable of comfortably sustaining populations upward of 500,000 each.   Nula (settled within a few years of Catari) eventually outshined Catari as the center of the duchy with its even greater level of exportable wealth with Catari becoming a subordinate world.   Relatively recently, the Assault of Catari damaged 5 of the 7 domes severely, leaving only Aneadur Falls and Eneann Heights on the continent of Ineklelus intact; all 5 of the other cities - which were on the continent of Thitrif - were damaged heavily, killing millions, and eventually abandoned.

Architecture

The initial settlements of Catari were located in the huge caves, the atmospheres of which were far easier to purify and compress and were not nearly as corrosive as the atmosphere on the surface. After the seven domed cities were built, the underground cities were essentially left to the non-human Folk, a situation which changed after the assault.   The underground cities are impressive in scope and aesthetics. Dwarven architects and miners were rewarded very well and allowed to carve out their own cities in return for their work. Goblins, well known for the hardiness and quick thinking when it comes to hostile environs quickly solved the problem of domes above ground and helped create impressive above ground domes which the humans quickly built within.

Geography

Catari has 4 continents. Though all are inhabited, only two of them were close enough to the planet's (relatively) warm zones that supported the truly large cave structure with a closer to breathable atmosphere and mountainous combination which resulted in the 7 major domed cities. The other two continents are richer in denser materials.

Natural Resources

Mineral and silicate wealth are more than abundant for Catari needs. Much of it is trapped in the ice, allowing for an interesting way to ship some of the trapped minerals. Also, (more) breathable compounds are in the ice.

1.75 million with over half living underground.
