Neazol Salvas, Lady of The Frost

The Sceocian goddess of ice, snow, wind, and The Winter.

History

Mortal Life

Neazol was originally born as the half-celestial child of Erykai and the mortal King Bahnad of Salvas. She grew up with her human father and his queen, who she believed to be her mother, and was raised with the other children of the palace, until she reached adulthood.

Once she turned twenty, Neazol's father sent her back to the Celestial Realm. When she arrived, however, she was unable to join her Celestial family because her mortal upbringing had meant she had no divine domain.

Ascension

To help her daughter, Erykai, being the goddess of trickery, devised a plan.

At the time the world was perpetually bathed in Ulin's sunlight or Aulla's moonlight, so Erykai's plan was to change this.

Erykai went to meet with Ulin, the Sun, and challenged him to a race around the world. Ulin, ever proud as he was, raced off without a second thought, taking the Sun's light and heat with him, and leaving behind a frozen wasteland until he eventually returned.

With Ulin away, Erykai named the newly created concept of Winter and subsequently claimed it as her own, gifting it to Neazol to rule over and allowing her to join the Celestial Realm. Ulin, upset by his loss, was for a time angry at Neazol for creating a time so devoid of his presence. However, in an attempt to appease her elder deity after much persuasion, the two came to an agreement and decided that they would share the planet equally; each getting one quarter of the year entirely to themselves, and the rest of the year being split between them. Thus, the creating the seasons.

Worship

Following her ascension, Neazol became a feared and respected diety, worshipped out of fear as often often as reverence. She is most commonly worshipped by those in the far north, where her influence can be most strongly felt; though, due to her connection to the royal family, she also has many followers in Salvas. She is prayed to by farmers to spare their harvests from frost year round, though all pray to her during the cold season to ask for fair weather and to be spared from the cold.

Festival Day

Her official festival day according to the Church of Skoria. The first day of the cold season (marked by the first frost of the year). Celebrated with feasts of food and ale, hunts, and bonfires.

Frost's Crest Festival

Celebrated on the thirteth day of the cold season, the height of the cold season and the shortest day of the year. Celebrated with feasts and races to celebrate the story of her ascension.
