The people of Partsia are an odd bunch, they have a heavy belief that all people everywhere are guided by something whether it be a god or destiny or something else entirely. To them, no one does anything on their own accord, and those who claim that they make their own destiny are considered fools.
— Daeris Stillpath, Dauxrerra Institute researcher
A nation known for it's vast exports, colourful port towns, and mass superstition, Partisia sits at the eastern coast of Aderesh as a beacon of commerce, trade, and prosperity, at least for some. As the modern Church of the Raven Queen was founded in Partisia, it is a theocracy ruled by the Queen's Feathers, a group that is at the head of religious worship of the Raven Queen, at the head of this group is High Priestess Hidra Arkenviir.   The primary purpose of the Raven Queen ensure that fate is followed and that undeath is slain. The church has always had a laid back aspect in regards to the world around them, with followers more focused on laying the dead to rest, either by performing their last rites at funerals or hunting down the undead in deep dungeons. As the Raven Queen is also heavily associated with fate, many Partisians believe they are guided by a higher power and their actions are a part of their predetermined path in life, even those who do not worship the Raven Queen tend to believe this as this belief has become part of the culture of the nation after many centuries of the theoratic rule.   Not all priests are clerics, and the typical Talon is a mundane warrior. However, due to the deep faith of its people, Partisia produces nearly the most amount of clerics and paladins on the continent.

Interesting Things About Partisia

  • Faith, in either religion or something else entirely, is a part of everyday life in Partisia, and finding someone to perform divine services is incredibly easy.
  • Every town and city has at least one Paladin and one Cleric of the Raven Queen available in case of any necromantic threats that may arise, and many of the local guards are trained in fighting such threats as well. Those who come under the Queen's wing or those that share the same principals will always find support and hospitality, but any character who dabbles in necromancy and undeath may find themselves in a very dangerous place.
  • As they are the children of the Queen, Partisia has the largest amount of Shadar-kai Elves than any other nation and nearly all of them are her followers. The nation also has the highest concentration of Sorcerers whose powers originate from the Shadowfell, Rogues who have taken the path of the Phantom, and Clerics who have devoted themselves to the Grave Domain, because of this the nation has, unfortunately, acquired the name "The Nation of Darkness" as one of it's various nicknames, which is ironic considering it is actually quite colourful.

Partisian Characters

The Impact of the Queen.

If you want to reflect a close bond with the Raven Queen while not being a Paladin or Cleric, consider gaining a few divine spells with the Magic Initiate feat. Many soldiers of the land, the Queen's Talons, choose to use two weapons when fighting in close quarters combat to emulate a raven using it's talons to fight, consider choosing the Two-Weapon Fighting fighting style and/or the Duel Wielder feat if you're playing a martial class. To reflect your faith further you might even want to take the Acolyte background upon character creation, or the Soldier background based on your service with the Talons.

Seafarers and Swashbucklers.

Many Partisians who live on the coast tend to spend more time on the sea than the land. The Sailor or Pirate backgrounds are both appropriate to take upon character creation if your character was born or spent a long time living on the coast (If you'd like to reflect your coastal background without wanting to take the Sailor or Pirate backgrounds, ask your DM if you could switch a tool proficiency for vehicles (water) proficiency).

The Guided.

Most Partisians have a strong belief that some higher power guides them. What does your character believe guides them? Is it the Raven Queen or another deity? Is it your patron? Or does you character think a bit outside of the box and think they're part of some ancient prophecy that talks about a hero saving the world, or perhaps a villain destroying it? Whatever the case may be, as a Partisian, you most likely follow this belief, work with your DM to fit this belief, or lack thereof, into your background.

Walk With Style! Or Not!

As a Partisian, you either have the most colourful choice of clothing in the room, or the darkest. Many Partisians, especially those who live on the coast and nobles, tend to wear bright, flashy clothing along with jewlery to match while those who are very devout to the Raven Queen tend to wear darker clothing with little to no jewelery.   Partisian men tend to wear multicoloured shirts underneath plain open robes, for bottoms they tend to wear brightly coloured pants tied with cloth belts that can go over the shirt or under depending on the style. Their footwear depends heavily on their job but is usually also coloured as opposed to the usual brown leather. Partisian women tend to wear brightly coloured robes of varying lengths, usually short if their job requires the need for flexibility, or coloured billowing shirts with with skirts, the skirts usually have patterns and/or a trim on them. Patterns on either genders clothing tend to be large spiraling "tendrils" that are scattered throughout the piece of clothing, the colours of the clothing range from bright reds and yellows to deep blues and greens similar to the colours of the ocean.   For those that wear darker clothing, many tend to wear long overcoats that button at the top but hang loose from the bottom, flowing like a cloak, over dark nondescript shirts. Their bottoms tend to match their tops and are usually either leather or linen. Much of the darker clothing tends to be lightly patterned and are sometimes coloured grey to contrast the rest of the raven black outfit. Some women wear long dark robes or dresses that follow the same parameters of the other outfit.
