Silvester Covington/Dusk

The third child in the current generation of the noble Covington bloodline, Silvester cares less for business and politics and more for some of the more enjoyable things in life, like swordplay and songs. Silvester has played the lute since he was 6, and after a decade of lute playing he could be considered a professional. Despite that fact, he rarely plays the lute under his real name, but instead likes to sneak out during the later evening hours wearing a black mask that covers the upper half of his face that seems to vaguely depict the moon rising, along with using some minor illusion spells to keep his identity a secret. Going by the name "Dusk" due to the fact that he only performs at night and the theme that his mask has, he has managed to gain many fans through his singing and lute playing. He has amassed a large following in the city of Forest Point due to both his hit songs and the mysteriousness of his identity. He has built the persona of Dusk as a bard who performs more for the popularity than the coin, and is also a bit of a playful person.
"Dusk is so charming and mysterious, and I bet he looks even better without the mask!" -Angelina Ryder, well known figure of Dusk's fanclub.
"Dusk's songs are always attention grabbing, and the illusions he weaves alongside them are amazing!" -Edmund Fitzlewis, a popular Tavern Critic.

Originally, Silvester only performed in his home city of Forest Point during the evening hours, as to avoid suspicion from his family and the townsfolk. This all changed when Silvester's home was burnt to the ground and his older brother was murdered while Silvester wasn't home, and the crime was pinned on him due to his mysterious absence. Unable to reason with the guards or his family, his father stripped his title from him, and Silvester ran away with only his lute, his mask, and the few coins he had in his pouch at the time. He stayed in the Light Lily Inn for two nights, performing for most of the day, before finding a caravan that he joined to get out of the city safely and undetected. Since then, he has gone between towns and cities, performing and helping those in need to make some money and search for evidence to clear his name.
"I was appalled when I learned that my own son would kill his own brother in an attempt to take over the role as head of the family. I yearn to see him punished for his crime." -Charles Covington, Patriarch of the Covington noble line.

His songs are often based around old myths, or famous tales of time past. Since he went on tour though, he has also started to include songs about his own adventures, often with some slightly exaggerated details.
"I think Dusk is the coolest! I could listen to him play lute all day, and still be invested in the stories he tells!" -Adeline Norwood

"Silvester is a criminal that must be caught as soon as possible! If we could figure out where he is..." Barnaby Dalison, Captain of the Stromvere City Guard

Nice read. I think it is a pretty interesting concept to have a someone of noble birth who wants to play use an alias. Shame what that he got framed for a disaster because of it though :/

I do love the idea of a bard with an alter ego, but that might just be the fact that I'm obsessed with superheroes. Great work here, overall!

Good read. Did he sneak out during the evening hours, or late at night as i see those as very different times. Is there a reason that he didn't just come out as Dusk to clear his name?

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

I have now edited the article to hopefully clear up your first question, and for your second question, he feels like people may not take him coming out as Dusk as enough evidence, as the fire still conveniently happened while he was gone and with his brother dead, making Silvester next in line as the head of the Covington noble line due to his noble line being patriarchal. And even though his own family hates him, he also doesn't want to tarnish the name of his family by coming out as Dusk; as being a bard that performs in taverns isn't the most noble of professions.

Lovely character. A one that would be a neat member of a team with a backstory to tell and talent to make him more believable. When I first read it, though, I got a bit confused when his father accused him of killing his siblings. Before, the paragraph didn't include that, and I thought it was only arson. Murder is on an entirely different level, so I think it should be included for clarity.   What does the mask look like? Is it something that people would associate specifically with Dusk?

Thanks for the advice, I have updated the article to make it a little more specific along with describing his mask.

Short and sweet. I loved the tongue in cheek comments from the population.

Nice story :D I'm wondering if it was accidental that he was absent and made a good culprit or if someone knew about his secret identity and it was all planned... Does nobody has suspicions about who Dusk is now that he was forced to leave exactly at the same time as Silvester?
