The Sedile

Located in the heart of Estalia, the Sedile is a large complex of buildings which host the various levels of government. Many say that it is the largest collection of meeting rooms in the world, as it host much of the various committees, departments, administrators, and legislatures in the republic. Although Estalia is famous for having spires capped with silver, the Sedile is uniquely capped with copper, which has oxidized to a cyan. The one exception is the Ordo Tower, which rises high above the rest of the complex, whose copper roof is meticulously kept orange by the work of The White Mice.

At the heart of the Sedile lies the Senate Chambers, which is where the final debates and deliberations for the various laws and bylaws are battled over. The chambers are circular, with several rows of benches for the Senators to hurl arguments from. In the middle of the room is a simple wooden desk and chair resting on a raised platform, which is believed to have been Estal's own desk. All codified laws are signed on the desk, however, the chair is ceremonially left empty, which forces the senators to sign the bills from the opposite side.

Off to the side of the floor rests a similar desk, which is the official seat of the Auctor.

"I remember once when I was a young boy, my father took me into his work. At the time, I didn't really know what he did, and, to be honest, I really didn't care to learn. Most of the day went by uneventfully, with my father giving me a tour of a large part of the Sedile, to the point where I don't remember most of it. However, I do remember entering a large, dark room which was lit by a single window near the ceiling. My father kept talking about about the great work that had been completed and the great people that had walked this room, but I was distracted by the wooden desk in the middle. The desk itself was very ordinary, with only the wear and tear of time providing embellishment to its surface. It appeared almost identical to the hundreds of clerks' desks I had seen previously that day. At the time, I didn't realize the gravity of that realization, but I now know that the presence of the desk is deliberate. It is to remind us Senator of who truly is responsible for Estalia's greatness. It reminds us of the loggers and millers who turned wood into lumber, it reminds us of the craftspeople who carefully took those materials and created something useful, and it reminds us of the hundreds of clerks and administrators in identical desks who turn the wheels of our beaurocracy and keep us following The Grand Plan. It also reminds us of the children who sneak away when their father's aren't looking to carve their names on the bottom of old desks."
