World Ember Homework 2024

Week One

Pledge

My pledge document can be seen up top. I will be written 50,000 words in December. This will be split between adding more to my Sielah Universe and starting the Order of the Silver Dawn, a brand new RPG. I want to give myself a challenge but also keep myself from getting sick of doing the Sielah Universe since I've spent so much time with it outside of World Anvil. Plus, both will give me a break from Caelum Prime, which I've spent a lot of time in recently.

Area of focus

Sielah Universe

Here I will be focusing finishing the abilities of the Darktide Defenders. Once finished with this, I will concentrate on the other supernatural groups. I'd like to get these done well, but if I have time, there are plenty of locations and characters that need to be completed.

Order of the Silver Dawn

I'm starting this RPG from scratch. I will be focusing on the setting, to include the world and its cities. This will followed by doing the factions. Again if there's time, I'll move on the story plots and hooks as well as the NPCs.

Meta

I will not be doing the meta for Sielah Universe because of all the work I've already put in to it. But the Order of the Silver Dawn is brand new so I will be creating the meta to help me stay focused, especially since this will be my first RPG.

Week Two

Review of Homepage

Sielah Universe

Everything is looking the way that I want it to fir this world, except for a couple of items which we'll go into detail about here shortly.

Order of the Silver Dawn

As for Order of the Silver Dawn, the intro blurb, aka the pitch needs to be fixed. Right now it is too long. I'm not going to be getting this information though (see next section). I'll be making a few other tweaks as well.

The World Primer

Sielah Universe

I won't be writing a primer for this world. This is because I want readers to be able to explore the world in a way that works for them, instead of my trying to direct them down a path that isn't right for them. I want them to enjoy what I've written and explore at their leisure.

Order of the Silver Dawn

I will be creating a primer for this world. What I currently have as my pitch will become a part of the primer. I'm doing it for this world since this is an RPG, players and GM's need a bigger introduction into this world and learn where to go from here.

Community Tools

I will be adding the needed buttons to both worlds. Update: I'm going to be holding off on these until a later date. If I can, I will get them done before December starts. If not, I will take care of them as the worlds are more developed.

CSS Wizarday

Sielah Universe

At the moment, I have the CSS and the look on Sielah Universe where I want it. It will come down to tweaking it as I continue to build it to make sure everything stays consistant and has the same feel. As well as updating it if the feel changes.

Order of the Silver Dawn

I haven't started putting in the CSS for this world and I will be doing that, such as fonts and colors and whatnot. As with all my worlds, I'll adjust it as it grows and as it needs it.

Week Three

For this week's homework I choose to primarily focus on Order of the Silver Dawn. This is because it's new new, instead of just being new to World Anvil like Sielah Universe. If I haven't said this here, I am bringing Sielah Universe into WA to help organize this world and fill the spaces that I didn't see when I first made this world.

Read a book or watch a movie

As much as I love reading books, I had a lot on my plate over the last week (and still do to be honest), so I decided to watch a movie. Keeping in mind which world I am building from scratch, I choose to watch Sherlock Holmes, the 2009 verison starring Robert Downey Jr. I am neutral about the movie. Though I did enjoy how the characters interacted with each other. Some of the relationships showed that you can't always tell who's friend or foe. This, plus the interplay of groups and poltics did give me ideas of how to build Order of the Silver Dawn.

Create a moodboard

Here's my moodboard. It captures the essence of Nyxis, a world where the hum of steam-powered machines clashes with the whisper of ancient magick. The images evoke the tension of Argenthold's streets, the mystery of the Black Fog Districts, the grandeur of Aetherion's floating cities, and the untamed lands of the Shattered Frontier.

Create or expand your writng playlist

What I listen to for anything I'm working on writing wise, ultimately, becomes background noise. Most of the time this is music but sometimes is a tv show or movies that I've seen repeatedly. It depends on my mood and what will help me the most.

Week Four

Find a community

World Anvil itself is a great community and I have been enjoy the Discord server where I can hang out, talk with others and ask questions when I need to.

I'm also with a community called Game of Tomes. This is another great community of writers. This community has gamified the writing experience. While for December, we will not be in an event, it's still a community that I can and will be going to when I need a pick me up or need someone to vent to or to ak questions.

My family is supportive of my writing. I have a friend that I can go to for bouncing ideas off of, or for guidance on how to solve a writing problem I'm having

Plan your writing schedule

I'm going to be sticking to my Twitch streaming schedule. I will be making it week by week because I have to work around my paying job's schedule. My family will want time as well, but they're good about letting me having my writing time.

Get some fresh air

Going for a walk isn't feasible at this time of year, not with where I live. But over the next week, as I'm finishing NovelEmber, I will be watching a movie with my family, reading a book, and doing some meditating. I will make sure that I'm ready for December.
