Corrosive Dragon Blight Condition in World of Stendaaris | World Anvil

Corrosive Dragon Blight

Transmission & Vectors

Corrosive Dragon Blight is a magical condition that can happen when a great wyrm dragon participates in a mating ritual with younger dragons. When this happens, it passes on to some or all of the dragon whelps. Corrosive Dragon Blight can also occur when a dragon is about to pass on. That is partially due to the weaker immune system.

Causes

Birth

If corrosive dragon blight transmits to the dragon whelps, it is usually a sign of a weak brood. When the brood mother sees this in her clutch, it is also a sign that this will be her last brood.

Age

Suppose a great wyrm starts showing signs of the corrosive dragon blight. That means they are about to pass on. As great wyrm age, they tend to live a more sedentary lifestyle, and various elements of decay start to occur over their scales.

Symptoms

The main symptom of corrosive dragon blight is the discoloring of scales. The most complicated sign to identify is the scales of an inflicted dragon change their color slightly. A manifestation that comes with time is coughing up a thick corrosive substance. The more chronic cases in dragons, they start losing their scales. The dragon scales that fall off from these dragons are very brittle and can make cheap knock-off dragon scale armor. Unfortunately, this armor is nowhere near as strong as healthy scales.

Affected Groups

This condition only affects Dragons and Dragonborn. This condition doesn't affect chromatic Dragons and Dragonborn as much as it does metallic Dragons and Dragonborn.

Hosts & Carriers

If a dragon whelp has corrosive dragon blight, they would have received it from the brood mother. Therefore, that whelp will become a carrier in the future even if they don't show signs. Males that have corrosive dragon blight tend to show signs and tend to have lingering effects.
