This article is about swearing...and it may contain swear words.
In the World of Seven Seas, there are many uses of world-specific swear words, euphemisms, and exclamations of emotion. Use of them can help immerse readers or players in the world. Some of the most common or used are highlighted in this article.

Swearing & Euphemisms

The Ones We Know

Some things are universe-agnostic, and that applies especially to swears that reference bodily functions (i.e. 'shit', 'piss off') as well as those that reference sex and fidelity, epescially in cultures where a high moral value is placed on those things (i.e. 'fuck', 'bastard'). Things that reference the Christian God and theology would not be used (i.e. 'God damn it', 'Damn it to hell') but other common phrases might (i.e. 'for Fuck's sake').

Exclamations

"In the name of the Six"

Can be used like "What in the name of the Six are you doing?" or "In the name of the Six, I would never do that!". Commonly used in countries and cultures where they worship The Senary.

"By the Lady"

Used in Mare'n as well as by followers of the Way of the Stars. Can be used as an exclamation of shock or surprise, or to emphasize something.

"What in the Stars?"

Used in Mare'n as well as by followers of the Way of the Stars. Usually an exclamation of shock or surprise.

A solid foundation for exploring in-world languages. Consider adding the language's words that correspond to the phrases with a phonetic or stylistic flair to make them feel distinct.
