Journalkeeper

The Journalkeeper is the individual appointed to be in charge of maintaining and being familiar with the Emphir's Journals. They are also a personal cleric of sorts for the ruler, helping them to find what they need or find materials related to what is in the journals. In essence, they are the current ruler's personal librarian.

Qualifications

Reading and writing are absolute dealbreaker requirements, as is trustworthiness. A vast wealth of knowledge, ability to make strong connections, strong affinity for doing research, and a good memory are also good qualifications.

Career Progression

This career is stand-alone. It is an appointment an invidual keeps usually for life, or until they are old enough to retire with honor. Often this person is chosen for a combination of their skill in other research and clerical worth, their personal connection to the ruler who is doing the appointment, and their trustworthiness.

Payment & Reimbursement

As with most individuals who work directly for the Royal or Imperial family, the Journalkeeper wants for nothing. They are given anything they could desire, within reason. Their immediately family is also taken care of and live comfortably.

This is a position of significant influence over the current ruler - both as a confidante and advisor, but also in the materials they choose to help the person find and whether they do so with a biased or unbiased viewpoint.

The position of Journalkeeper is one of prestige. This person is basically a part of the Imperial family, and a keeper of Imperial secrets nobody else knows.

Demographics

One person at a time. Occasionally, if a Journalkeeper is elderly and almost ready to retire or ill and likely to pass soon, the ruler will choose the next Journalkeeper while they can apprentice to the current.

Workplace

The Journal collection is kept in a private library in the Imperial wing of the palace, and this is where the Journalkeeper does the majority of their work. They also make frequently utilization of the libraries in Ostar, and sometimes libraries and archives in other places.

Most Journalkeepers will tell you the most important part of the Journal Room (besides the Journals) is a good desk and desk chair, two comfortable reading chairs, and plenty of available light.

The Journalkeeper functions as a librarian, cleric, confidante, researcher, advisor, and personal assistant to the ruler at different times as needed. Different rulers have required different services from the Journalkeeper.

The Journalkeeper is a well-protected member of the Royal or Imperial household, but the fact is, they know a lot of secrets. Journalkeepers have been threatened, kidnapped, and assasinated.
