Decade
The Decade is the smallest unit in two branches of the Eschen Military (Army and Navy) and is made up of ten men or women who live, train, and work together. It is the second smallest unit in the Guard branch as well.
Composition
Manpower
A Decade is made up of ten men or women.
Structure
Each Decade is led by a Decanus, which is the lowest-ranking officer position in the Eschen Military. Ten Decades make up a Century in the Imperial Army. In the Imperial Navy, the number of Decades on a Ship depend on the type of ship and its' purpose. Similarly, the number of Decades in a city Imperial Guard division depends on the size and importance of the city. In the Guard, members work in pairs called Braces: five Braces per Decade.
Tactics
The strength of the Decade relies in large part on the small size of the unit. It allows the members to know each other and their strengths and weaknesses intimately, and trust can be established to an intense degree.
Training
The members of a Decade do more than train together - they live together, work together, travel together; their lives are intertwined intimately and personally. It is unusual for members to be transferred out of a Decade except under extreme circumstances - new trainees are simply rotated in when old members are killed or retire.
Logistics
Logistical Support
A Decade on it's own doesn't require a lot of support; moving ten people is not a resource-heavy activity. In that case, one member of the Decade is in charge of logistics. When more than one decade move at the same time, an entire Decade will be assigned to handle logistics for the group.
Recruitment
Recruits for the Imperial Militaries are volunteers, and there is no shortage of said volunteers. Soldiers are paid an excellent wage, have retirement benefits, and have chances to advance socially that others might not have. Once they finish basic training (or their cadet program), new soldiers are assigned a Decade and moved into the forces. Their Decanus and other officers are responsible for finishing the training of each recruit.
