Kilagoria-Falhullen
Hidden away in the desert, backed against a ravine so deep that it you can hear the ancestors cry from the depths at night, was Kilagoria-Falhullen. The Greatest Kingdom to ever live on, or around, the sands. The Empire doesn't want to talk about it, not since they wiped it from the map, but it was a place of wonder. At one point, it was foretold that the great city would lead those of the Desert towards a future that was beautiful, and prosperous. Those have long since passed, and even the stories grow dusty and lose their sheen with time.
I was young when I first heard of it, and the Battle of the Kilagoria, thats the ravine from where it gets its name. That, and the lake Falhullen which sits beside it, barely spilling water over the edge towards the abyss. It was massive, some tens of thousands of people called it home. They herded the worms and led the people through the desert. There was even talks that they had found a way to cultivate the lands. To use the sands to grow their crops finally. They had tried for so many years, but apparently it was starting to work. Or so they say.
They said that they city was made of sand, hardened using magic and built using strength. That the works of both the arcane and martial were involved in the crafting of the city. Its highest peak was the leaning tower, which spanned so high, it could over look the edge and offered the scholars of the region a respite from their journies. After all, who wouldn't want to peer into the void to see if they could parse its secrets.
It was on the dawn of the fifth kings crowning that the city came under seige from the Empire. Flying machines and beasts of the air descended and lay havoc to the lands. They treated the peoples as if they were antagonisers, as if they had started the conflict, and they were keen to end it. They shattered the tower, leveled the castle, and buried the lower levels of the city under an avalanche of cannons and magic. The result was a city so destroyed and gone, that even the occupants to this day are still discovering mysteries from the days before. The greatest city of the Desert, leveled in only a few minutes by the will of the Empire. Hardly fair.
