Kesanage Ethnicity in World of Arsteria | World Anvil

Kesanage

The peoples of the Kesanage hold their ideals in high regard. Ancient stories speak of the elders of their cities being spoken into existence by the First great creator, the one often called the God of Creation. Little knowledge has escaped from the hidden oasis of cities within the mountains and atop the peaks that hold home to the two peoples of the Enduring Gods (Endura Domina). The Kesanage are the only known group that has interacted with the other kingdoms, tribes, and city-states throughout the world. Their presence as leaders of the original sect of the Arcane Consortium alongside the Elder Scalise cemented them as speakers of Arcane Wisdom; and their origins as peddlers of the strange but highly sought after Ethereal Gems and Metals placed them in nearly every major society by the rise of the first Calendar established by the Empire of Five Kings.

Culture and cultural heritage

Much of the Kesanage Culture revolves around the usage and control of Ether(eal) Materials. The Ethereally infused Jewels, Infused Stones, Infused Metals, Infused Ores. These can be naturally found in certain areas or can be created with great exertions of energy. The objects themselves can be mundane, but with the element of infusion it becomes valuable. As such the hierarchy of what little of the culture is shown puts great esteem on those in possessions of a large number of mines or objects of Ethereal nature.

Art & Architecture

Architecture: The lower settlements that have been opened for visitors from every society, hints at strange and intricate works well beyond. The entrances are often massive peaked arches with thick stone doors the width of several people. The cities themselves are built into the stone and mountain themselves but vary from mountain to mountain. The level of reliability in certain fields, mainly mining and farming, caused a number of cities to be placed along valleys as well, and these take more influence from the various other peoples from the surrounding areas.
Art: The art of the Kesanage show their mastery of the arcane arts in ways that many are still trying to replicate. The early Pre-Empire works consist of impossibly thin sheets of stone engraved with details of battles against creatures of horror. Wall engravings show untiy of peoples under wise rulers though the gender is often concealed. Feats of magic are shown on pottery works or in oral tradition. The only prevailing peice of work that almost all major cities posses, is a statue of a vieled person holding a large glowing jewel. The jewels color will never be consistent but both its pressence and the efforts taken to increase its brightness speak to the importance.
