Career

Qualifications

First Age Surveyors were required to have a means of transportation, a vouch of character, as well as an amount of training in defense. They were then required to travel to their nearest city and present themselves before the Noble Council. From the Second Age on Surveyors were required to have served three years in one of the Academies. One year would be dedicated to Martial training and the rest dedicated to the Scholarly Arts. Once completed the Surveyor would be issued a test and inspection of character.

Career Progression

Veteran Surveyors are Surveyors that have served for a number of years.

Payment & Reimbursement

Surveyors are paid a weekly sum for their work, enough to cover daily expenses and accommodations, and receive a small increase with each successful settlement.

Other Benefits

Surveyors gain the rank of a low noble after their eventual retirement. Should they have been involved in the acceptance of a number of profitable settlements, a monthly payment of a share of their combined total profit. The amount is a very small portion of the Empires gain on the settlement, but is enough for a smart noble to raise themselves up further.

Perception

Purpose

The Surveyor is responsible for traveling to prospective settlements to check their qualifications, this includes meeting the building requirements and judging the possibilities of the prospective addition.

Social Status

Surveyors rarely are recognized by the Noble Houses or the common peoples at large. Retired Surveyors gain a title of land and a rank of a lower noble. This can effectively set their house up for the possibility of reaching recognized Nobility.

Demographics

A small portion of attendees at any Academy are training for the position. It is widely seen as one of the most dangerous options possible, as defense and protection can not always guarantee safety from untamed dangers. A team of soldiers and a single Knight Officer are assigned as protection.

History

Surveyors have remained widely the same through the years. Their profession itself is considered vague and open to interpretation on the judging of prospective settlements and their possible resources, still a general sense of unwavering duty was implemented early in the conception. Early Surveyors were told the risks and told their rewards, the prospect of receiving a cut, no matter how small, of any successful settlement was enticing but it would usually take several years for the city to start producing enough in taxes to warrant it. They were also given direct command of the Knight Officer, with the understanding that the Knight Officer would take all necessary precautions and actions to protect all involved which could include taking back that command, which appealed to the more discerning as a way of gaining allies in the KO circles.

Operations

Tools

Surveyors are given a single hauberk of linked chain, a choice of weapon for defense, an Imperial Sigil, and a slanted arm wrap to denote their position.

Provided Services

Imperial Surveyors inspect the prospective settlements wishing to receive the aid and protection of the Empire as a whole.

Dangers & Hazards

The dangers associated with traveling through unprotected, and possibly untamed, lands posses a general risk. Bandits and highwaymen offer the other, more colorful varieties.
