Birth of the Scalise

It was a desperate plea and an ill fated chance, but as luck would have it they were destined for surprising greatness.

Summary

The early tribes of the southern desert were outmatched in the dangers of their surroundings. They tribes were young and had just made it through their greatest migration from across the central ocean, only to discover the shifting beauty of the desert was plagued with creatures. Unable to simply fight eachother, the Marda, Vardan, Broxceus, Hiander, and the remaining Uzerant formed a party to investigate strange sightings of flying creatures able to weild the elements as if they were nothing but clay to be molded. The flying creatures as it turned out were dragons and were unfamiliar with the new risings of sentience. Communication was nearly impossible and the vast size difference made interactions more dangerous than approachable, until eventually it was found that mental connections could be established. With the new found way of communication, derived in very basic sentences and feelings mostly, the tribes and Dragons were able to reach a strange and unique deal. The ancient of the Dragons had seen the world rise and fall several times now and was beginning to grow bored of simply observing. Dragons, bearing no ill will towards the regular of sentient creatures, had also attacked the tribes before. Each attack left dead on both sides, and was less of a war than a simple annoyance. Unbeknownst to the Tribes, a council of Elder Dragons was currently in discussion on what to do about the new arrival of creatures in the desert. Their plans were varied from murdering everyone to simply ignoring the pests until they went away, but they hadn't expect a party of the tribes to come asking for help. The humility and grace shown by the tribes representatives convinced the Council to forgo any previous idea and decide upon a new one entirely: "The people of the tribes need a way to survive, we will provide that boon. In exchange you will give us home among your peoples." Chosen members of the Council gave up their positions and underwent a merging with the tribes that resulted in the first Scalise. The Elders. Scalise born from a bond with Ancient Dragon and Early Life. The scalise form adopted more traits of the other humanoids than that of its original, but the most striking feature to stay was the full scales coating the body.

Historical Basis

Early recordings of the tribes are difficult to decipher as their language was less legible and more hap-hazard, but indications on pottery and walls do show a group of the many tribes departing for a mountain encircled with flying shapes. Other pieces mirror the image but with new glittering figures alongside the ones before. Until further details can be acquired about the history involved in the early tribes actual encounters with the first creatures, historians are left to grasp at legends and fables that have survived.

Spread

Though the story is not extremely well known outside of the desert tribes Oasis' and cities,

Variations & Mutation

Many variations of the myth exist along the coasts and outside the desert itself. Each one is largely the same retelling, though they do often exclude atleast one of the many tribes that joined. This has typically been done for matters of political control or general distrust.

Cultural Reception

The many tribes of the Desert that still exist from the early migration hold the story in such high esteem that it is nearly gospel. The Scalise of the Desert hold similar feelings, though that doesn't mean they treat the story as fact. The general idea attributed to the story is a sense of commradery and unity to stand against the obsticles ahead.

In Literature

Several poems depict sides of the story from indivduals allegedly from the expidition. Short accounts and journal entries have been recovered though never from the time and only ever from other scholars searching for answers.

In Art

Cave paintings and pottery are the largest examples of the story that have survived through the years.
